I am here for Friends

About Me

I write fiction, nonfiction, and poetry. I'm the author of LAWNBOY and FAMOUS BUILDER, both published by Graywolf Press. A new novel, LUMINA HARBOR, is forthcoming. And I'm currently working on a collection of short prose pieces, some of which are forthcoming in Subtropics, Conjunctions, The Seattle Review and elsewhere. See more at paullisicky.com
For more information about Graywolf Press, see their MySpace page: myspace.com/graywolfpress.

I've taught at Cornell, NYU, Sarah Lawrence, Antioch University Los Angeles, the University of Houston, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, and at many writers conferences.

A FEW QUOTES ABOUT MY WORK:

Bret Anthony Johnston, BOOK: "Lisicky's prose shines, at times hilarious, at others entrenched in sorrow and longing, but always gorgeous to read."

Michael Cunningham: "LAWNBOY is, quite simply, the real thing, a novel of mystery and great beauty. The appearance of a writer like Paul Lisicky, a writer who deeply respects the complexities of love and desire, who can find tragedy and transcendence wherever he looks, is a rare event."

PAPER: "[LAWNBOY is] a lushly emotional, romantic, and tragic pursuit."

Ann Patchett: "LAWNBOY is as dreamy and lush as the South Florida landscape it inhabits. It is funny, dead-on insightful, and very, very sexy."

FLAUNT: "Paul Lisicky has a bright narrative style....a voice to watch."

BOOKSENSE 76 NEWSLETTER: "[LAWNBOY] is to young gay men growing up in the 1980s and 1990s what Edmund White's A BOY'S OWN STORY was for gay men who grew up in the 1950s and 60s."

Andrea Barrett: "In the neighborhood [of FAMOUS BUILDER] you might also find Nabokov's SPEAK, MEMORY, Steven Millhauser's EDWIN MULLHOUSE, and some of Rick Moody's work. But the structure Lisicky has built for us is sturdy, and all his own."

Alexander Chee, PW DAILY: "[FAMOUS BUILDER is] one of the best memoirs in recent history. It reads like it's been rinsed in light."

OUT: "Stunning and revealing...[FAMOUS BUILDER] is a rare feat of imagination, forming an exquisite architecture of the self."
