Hi, I'm Adam. You're listening to my band Creepy. Dogmatic/doctrinaire faith is the same as hitting the bong too much: you stop thinking for yourself. I have a lot of issues with organized religion because I think that it causes so much misery for so many people. Some people get their quota of comfort from their drugs, others from church. I say if you're really brave: THINK FOR YOURSELF. Sure life isn't fair and sometimes it sucks but can't we just understand it for what it is?
Life (as far as I can tell) is all about perspectives, if you always look in the same direction you cut yourself off to the rest of the complicated world. Sure it makes life managable but don't you dare tell yourself that you know the whole story. We don't judge a book from it's cover, why do we live life from it's cover?
"The world is a progressively realized community of interpretation." -Josiah Royce, that gem is engraved in one of the pillars of Royce Hall at UCLA.
I love drumming and enjoy playing shows with my bands: Creepy (punk - we are looking for a bass player! Know anyone?), Silence is Safety (lust rock) and Retching Red (hardcore). My day job is automating test cases for network equipment and I specialize in daydreaming about being on tour. On the side, my buddy Jim and I started Teeno Records, which is mainly a ska-punk promotions company right now. Past bands include:
Joyful Pain (shitty garage rock) - 1991
Satin Plaid (ditto) - 1992
Old Skool 3 (ditto) - 1993
Sneaky Long (ska/punk) www.teenorecords.com/sneakylong
Sneaky Long formed my junior year of high school '94 when ska was actually popular! imagine that... anyway we would practice every single afternoon in my dad's garage and actually got good enough to win the 1995 Fremont Union High School District battle of the bands! Ha! and you thought I was a mere mortal... That was fun. Then we took a bunch of time off for college and met back up after 6 yrs off and played all over the bay area from 2002-2004. We recorded a CD that you can buy at our website.
MVP (punk covers) - 1995/96
Mvp was the first college band I ever played with in Isla Vista while I was going to UCSB. We played all kinds of punk covers from bands like: nofx, guttermouth, face2face, blink etc. We had a kindof shitty singer named "Turtle" and this cool guitar player named "Jim" I think... The other two guys were my roommates: Naoto Desilva (guitar) and Matt Nest (guitar);Matt was from Carlsbad. I still hang out with Naoto all the time but haven't heard or seen from Matt since 1997... wonder what ever happened to that guy, he transfered to Arizona State and I left for UCLA and then CAL.
Public Display of Affection (classic rock)- 1996/97
We were a classic rock band that played covers and originals in Isla Vista after MVP broke up. The bass player was named Lubo, he was from Long Beach. The guitarist and songwriter named Erik Beckett, he was awesome and had long stringy blond hair, I really need to track that guy down. He had a hot sister named Tanya I think who went to UCSC at the time. Erik was from Sacto.
The Real Average Joe (hardcore) - 1998 - 2001
www.therealaveragejoe.com
When I got to Cal I started living in the Casa Zimbabwe Co-op, thats where I met Danny who lived with his girl Cindy like four doors down. We jammed one day and I knew we would be in a band together. Anyway, we found this other dude Cheyne Wilson who was a punker we knew and started playing hardcore originals with some screeching weasel covers.... fun stuff. You can listen to some recorded songs on our website and we might still have our cd and live cd on sale at rasputins on Telegraph...
Creepy - 2001 to present
www.myspace.com/creepy
We are a hardcore pop punk band thats been playing shows regularly in SF and in Oakland. We are slowly but steadily making progress... You can hear more at our mypace page.
Silence Is Safety - 2004 to present
After Sneaky Long broke up, Jim Brooks (guitar from sneaky long) and I wanted to start a female fronted band so we posted an ad on Craigs list and we ended up meeting up with Emy Donavan, a girl I knew from Cal Band and Jim's old roomate and talented songwriter Alex. Anyway you can listen to songs at www.silenceissafety.com
Retching Red - 2005 to present
I really like playing with this band. Its the most harcore of all my bands and shows are a blast. Playing with Cinder, Mike and Jake is awesome. www.myspace.com/retchingred
Damn, there is hella more but I'm getting tired. I was going to talk about booking shows at the Sunnyvale Quarternote for a while in early 2003 and also putting on Reggae Festivals: "Skank Irie Sounds" but that shit will have to wait. Its Friday night and I want to get going.
