Wassup Hellions! I’m the bass player for Handsome Devil. I guess I’m the new guy since I joined HD in September 2003, but I’ve known Danny, Billie, and Keith for years. I’ve been a HD fan since the beginning, and I’m excited about being a part of the band.
OK, a little about me. I was born July 2nd in Indiana – home of basketball, John Cougar Mellencamp, the Indy 500, and mullets. Growing up in the suburbs of Indiana I listened to my mom’s Kenny Rogers and Air Supply albums until I was ‘all out of love’ and i knew 'when to foldem'. I was raised on radio music, and having a limited selection in Indiana, let’s just say that I know the words to too many cheesy songs. During that time I perfected my air guitar skills using a tennis racket and dreamed of big cities and bright lights.
I’ve been playing bass and guitar for over 13 years. I taught myself to play – spending hours after school in my room learning tablature from books and figuring out songs by ear. I listened to classic rock, glam, metal, and MTV’s Headbanger’s Ball. I had my long hair, torn jeans, and metal t-shirts, but I was out of place in Indiana. So I bought my one-way ticket to Southern California after high school and headed out west.
I’ve been a bassist, rhythm guitarist, lead guitarist, and singer over the years. I’ve played in all types of rock bands though – metal, alternative Pearl Jam wannabees, and punk. Most recently I was singer/songwriter/guitarist in the local Orange County band Spitwad – a pop/punk trio. It was perfect timing as that band broke up, and HD was looking for a bass player. So here I am, rock me like a hurricane.
Let’s see what else…I have a dog that’s a terrier-mix named Loosie Fur. She’s my favorite pain in the ass. I like to watch action movies, comedies, sci-fi, porn, movies about the mob, and comedic alien gangster porn with a lot of action. I listen to all types of music except twangy country – it makes me sad when they lose their dog, their truck, and their girl all in the same 3 minutes.
I like to cruise the town, see bands in small clubs, drink like a fish, wake up in a strange place, and do it all over again. And I spend way too much time on the internet – I think I’m going blind. I love tasteful tattoos on girls – you know the ones you don’t know about until the clothes are on the floor? Or the ones on the lower back? I’m a sucker for those. But I don’t like black olives, or tattoos of black olives.
I’m an easy going guy that has fun with whatever I do. I love playing shows, rocking out, and meeting new people. I’m good at remembering faces, but I’ll be the first to admit that I suck at remembering names at first. So it’s great to be in Handsome Devil and to be playing with…yeah, those guys…what were their names?
