Nothing is more powerful than beauty in a wicked world. ~Amos Lee

About Me

Once upon a time in a galaxy far-far away, a 8 1/2 pound Jedi Knight was born at Fairview hospital. From early on his parents could tell the force was with him as he wielded his $3.99 light saber skillfully throughout the house. Master Yoda even made appearances when the young Rick was growing up in order to teach him about the Force. Today, Rick is ready to complete his training as a Jedi Knight and to face the forces of the dark side.

My Interests

Does eating ice cream count? ;^) My primary hobby nowadays is swing dancing, e.g., east coast swing, lindy hop, & blues. I try to go dancing at least once a week although I have been known to go dancing from Friday night straight through Sunday. :^) I have bunch of other hobbies like geocaching (www.geocaching.com), reading, gaming, hiking, backpacking, and star gazing…but most of those only happen during winter/summer breaks.

Oh, and I am a little liberal...

I'd like to meet:

Everyone...because we all have stories to tell, and it is through these stories that we will see the common humanity in one another and put an end to injustice. No longer will we see our fellow man as an “other” — one who is not us and therefore not worthy of recognition, respect, or dignity. Instead our new knowledge will transform our consciousness and lead none to “be satisfied until justice rolls down like waters and righteousness like a mighty stream.” (Martin Luther King Jr.)

Anything you can dance to!

Bill Moyers interview about Blackwater

This interview between Bill Moyers and Jeremy Scahill is absolutely fascinating. Who could guess private mercenary armies (e.g., Blackwater) would play such an enormous role in Iraq? What does this me...

Here's a fun children's poem inspired by my two guinea pigs. You see, when I go home at night, (and if I'm in just the right mood), I make up songs or poems as I'm preparing dinner. The following poem...
