I run a huge Oxfam shop on Oldham Street, Manchester. I've worked for Oxfam for 8 years now! I love my job. It can get pretty stressful from time to time... the stress is more than balanced out by the fact that I'm working for the kids and not the man. !
I also run a monthly night 'Fight Club' which usually takes place every 2nd Friday of the month at Retro Bar, Sackville Street, Manchester. I pick all the bands to play, and sometimes have a go at dj-ing...this involves Nirvana, Pavement, Sonic Youth and JAMC on heavy rotation. Lianne dj's, Rach and Julie run the door.
Some other things..... I spend most of my time/money watching noisy bands...I cannot hear any top end in my right ear because of this. I think that could be why I am always telling guitarists to turn up during FC soundchecks. I love cheese, pizza, girls with something to say...and who find a way to say it, rowing boats, the open road, twilight, afternoon lovin, Austin, horses, Boss mega-distortion, sunshine, Lift To Experience, black slips, vodka, cameras, the colour red, 'Upside Down' by JAMC, my bed, quick cold showers and long hot baths, raspberry and white chocolate muffins, smooth and creamy Bailey's, mugs of strong tea.
Here's a few things that really do it for me....Hair Police, slide guitar (Bilge Pump style), Brian Chippendale, humour, conversation, mmmm neck, playing with my hair?!, kindness, having things in common, entrepreneurs, personality, loud loud gigs, the unperplexed, recently shaven soft skin, ambition without recklessness, attentiveness. It's all good.
The only thing to fear is fearlessness! Fear... spiders, becoming dependent upon another human being, flying, heights (getting better at it now I live on the 8th floor), boredom, never seeing the glass half-full, twee.
My friends, my band and travelling keep insanity at arms length. Phew.
