It was a pretty cliche intro for me. A dude lent me a tape to listen to while on a school excursion in year 6. One side was an NWA mix and the other was Beastie Boys. Quite a mix!! I bumped that tape forever. I think the guys still waitin for me to give it back. From there I stumbled into graff and its normal hip hop associations. Its been all downhill from there. Literally. Im mostly influenced by life in general, the constant injustices of this world, people close to me and my warped sense of a world view. The worlds generally fucked up and so are half the cats that live in it. My music creates an escape for me, from all of this.YOU JUST FINISHED A MIXTAPE TELL ME A BIT ABOUT THAT?
Have recently released a 16 track mixtape, done with my man Mc Damo, also from Adelaide. It was initally meant to be a 4-6 demo, then a 10 tracker, ended up as 16. It contains a mix of old recordings, concepts and fierce battle tracks. We had all these tracks and colabs lying around that we wanted to get out. Also wanted to let heads know that Im still around, as I hadnt done much since getting busy on the local battle circuit a few years ago. Its been well recieved and has certainly served its purpose. We plan on pumping them out every 6 months. Im currently working on another mixtape, which is going to feature dudes from around Oz, as well as cats from the US, England and New Zealand.WHERE DO YOU THINK AUSTRALIAN RAP IS HEADED?
It can only get bigger, as I see it. 10 years ago you couldnt find Oz hip hop in stores. 5 years ago it was still scarce. I remember walking into stores and being treated like some gangster tryhard, when askin about local hip hop releases. Now the same places are falling over themselves to stock the shit. The independent scene will continue to grow and thrive. With so many labels and companies around now, you can happily stay independent and dont have to aspire towards a deal from some corprate snake fucks. It almost seems detrimental to sign a big deal, it hasnt seemed to help the cunts that have done it. I couldnt stand the thought of some wanker telling me how I had to look in my artwork and shit. Fuck That!! People will keep on doin there thing. I think eventually someone will crack the overseas market and shit will probably get even more competitive and money driven. Im really hoping to blow up in North Korea, a country that I see as going places. And after years of communist rule, cats should have mad money to waste...WHEN YOUR NOT RAPPIN WHAT DOES WORDS ONE GET UP TO?
Probably trying to find a balance amongest this crazy shit. I tend to obsess with stuff, Ill go through periods of furious writing and recording, then Ill go through phases where I dont want anything to do with rap. I still commit a fair amount of my time gettin down with paint, that will always be a strong passion. Heads know. Trying to educate myself, on whatever it is thats taken my fancy that week. Im madly impulsive, so I never really know whats going to happen next. Spending time with my girl Rhi. Chillin with the boys, though Im just as happy to do my own thing. TS THE FUTURE PLANS MUSIC WISE?
Continue to work on my expansion into North Korea. Doing a lot more shows and getting that shit locked down. My man Damo has an album dropping late April, early May, so Ill be supporting him with that. A stack of colabs and features, more mixtapes and if all goes to plan a Words album droppin around December 07. Just in time to ruin Christmas...................................................
