About Me

Michael Cardoso is the founder and director of Extreme Martial Arts Academy. Sensei Cardoso has distinguished himself in the industry and the martial arts community as an excellent instructor, leader, and competitor. He has brought over 15 years of experience to the arts of Karate, Judo, Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, Shoot fighting and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After 10 years of training and competition, he earned his black belt ranking in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This accreditation was one of four other black belt rankings among different traditional martial arts. As head instructor, he is dedicated to developing and implementing instructional programs that enhance his students’ lives both physically and mentally. Sensei Cardoso has established his reputation outside the dojo, expediting seminars in tactical defense for local law enforcement as well as community outreach seminars in women’s self defense. He is also well known for his unique ability in teaching and motivating young children to excel to their highest potential. As an instructor and coach he has helped both male and female champions reach and place in both amateur and professional arenas. As an accomplished fighter, he has an extensive history on NO Holds Barred, Submission Grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu matches. He has traveled and competed internationally and Has su8ccesfully participated in renown competitions like World Extreme Fighting (WEF), Shooto (Japan), Abudabhi, North American Grappling (NAGA) and Hook N’ Shoot. ANYONE INTERESTED IN TAKING THE FOLLOWING CLASSES:Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (Gi)-This class focuses on learning and applying the fundamentals of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu while wearing a traditional gi or kimono. This class will cater to all levels; however, it is a perfect class for beginners because a significant amount of the class-time is spent conducting technique drills. Classes will focus on the basic offensive and defensive maneuvers while explaining the primary strategies and goals of the sport. Most techniques involve both grapplers on the mat. The main goal is to work toward positional dominance leading to a submission. A typical class includes 15 minutes of warm-up and calisthenics with the fundamental techniques of Jiu-Jitsu, followed by 15 minutes of technique drills, and then 30 minutes of sparring with a willing partner who is trying to submit you. A gi is required.Kickboxing- This class focuses on teaching Muay Thai kickboxing techniques while striking pads and focus mitts with punches, kicks, knees, and elbows. Muay Thai kickboxing methods develop devastating power and speed as well as superb cardiovascular endurance. Muay Thai kickboxing is as also quite safe thanks to the sophisticated pads utilized. A typical class includes 15 minutes of light punching and kicking .. mitts, followed by 15 minutes of punching and kicking on Thai pads, followed by 30 minutes of interval training using heavy bags, partner drills, etc. The emphasis in these classes is to keep moving, have fun, and get a great workout. Proper attire is required including groin protector,shin pads,kickboxing gloves, mouthpiece, shirt, and shorts. NOTE: Muscle and Fitness magazine rated kickboxing as the number one fat burner with over 800 calories burned in a one-hour class!Freestyle- This class focuses on applying traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques without wearing a traditional gi or kimono. It is recommended that students interested in no-gi grappling be well versed in traditional gi Jiu-Jitsu before attending; however, it is not mandatory. Classes will focus on teaching falls, escapes, positioning, leverage, and opening the guard as well as sweeps, submissions, and counters. A typical class includes 15 minutes of warm-up and calisthenics, followed by 15 minutes of technique drills, and then 30 minutes of light sparring with a willing partner who is trying to submit you. No-gi classes are excellent for learning real-world self-defense and ground fighting strategies while appealing to all student types and abilities.Open Mat- Open Mat classes provide students with a supervised, but less structured environment. Students are encouraged to ask questions and explore new techniques or engage in free sparring with a willing partner. Open mat classes are essentially a time where students can pick and choose the elements of their game that they want to work on. Open mat class typically have students practicing mixed martial arts, no-gi Jiu-Jitsu, and gi Jiu-Jitsu. Kids Classes- Our youth students have an opportunity to practice Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling as part of their martial arts training. The students learn & practice how to fall & roll safely, effective takedowns,and self-defence from the ground as well as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques & drills. Aside from the practical self defense benefits, grappling skills can also greatly enhance a student's self confidence and ability "to go with the flow."Private Classes- These one-on-one training sessions are much like hiring a personal trainer at your local gym. Each session is personally tailored to the needs and desires of the individual student. This could include perfecting fundamental jiu-jitsu techniques, preparing for a tournament, learning Kickboxing/self-defense or just spending extra time in weak areas of your game.The cost for a 1-hour private training session is $75.00 with a Black Belt and $50.00 with a Purple or Brown Belt and is by appointment only.A 24-hour notice is required to cancel an appointment for a full refund.
