HISTORY: The Denver Zine Fest was started in 2006 by zinesters/booksellers Kelly and Stevyn Prothero, as a way to celebrate and share zines, independent media and comix from Denver and beyond. This is an all ages, community event;Denver Zine Fest is also free to attend and free to vend.
The first DZF in 2006 was held at Matter printing press in downtown Denver and was a smashing success. The place was spilling over with workshops, over 25 vendors and hundreds of attendees.
The following year, the Denver Zine Library,as well as several mile-hi city zinesters joined Kelly and Stevyn in planning and organizing the fest. Taking place a few doors down at Andenken Gallery's original downtown location, over 50 vendors (many from out-of state) were present. In addition, a full roster of workshops on everything from bookbinding to Dadaism was added, keeping in the spirit of info-sharing and independent thought.Attendance was estimated at over 700,despite being held on one of the rainiest, coldest spring days in remembrance!
Denver Zine Fest continues growing and evolving. This year's festival will include even more zine vendors from across the country,an awesome Kids Corner with activities for the little ones, fun and informative workshops galore and fresh food prepared by the Underground Carrot Collective !!
Please join us and be sure to check out the official DZF website here! if you would like to be more involved./////////////////////////////////////////////
A ZINE is any small press publication that is self-published, and most of the time photo-copied. Usually they are printed in small runs, and can be about anything at all! Some are focused on a social, political, personal, artistic subjects. Zine is an abbreviation of magazine.
Interested in learning how to make your own zine? Wanna trade zines? Sell? please come to our Fest. This is a free event - to both vendors and attendees.
We are also having various workshops, such as how-to silkscreen, how to make a video documentary, how to do book-binding, and also a demonstration on the letter-press. Please come on down, and spend a day browsing, and chatting to creative zinesters who are sharing their work. We have people coming from New York, Cleveland, Fort Collins, Colorado Springs, Denver and many more locations.
If you would like to vend then contact us a.s.a.p. to reserve your table! SPACE IS VERY LIMITED!
Are you an artist? We need Denver Zine Fest flyers-can you help? Any ideas?
Can you sponsor the event? if you can chip in to help pay for our building rental costs, advertising etc then let's chat as one of our goals is to keep this event free for all to attend & vend.
Spread the word! We need your help getting the word out by posting bulletins, handing out flyers, talking DZF up wherever you go.....
