Jay Wallis

About Me

Jay Wallis started playing the trumpet professionaly at the age of 16 and after years of friendly cajoling started singing professionaly at the age of 30 somthing and a bit. ( He can't remember ) He studied at the RMSM Kneller hall ,Middlesex Polytecnic and the Guildhall school of music in London. After years freelancing around London he somehow ended up in Barcelona whilst on tour with a reggae band and decided to stay as the weather was better! There he worked with many different bands, busked on the street ( the money was good) and generally had a good time. In 1998 he formed the Jay Wallis Trio along with Dave Mitchell on guitar and Garry Fimister or Nono Fernandez on bass. The band quickly gained a reputation as a hot swinging unit with a powerful acoustic sound. They've since worked at clubs and festivals throughout Spain & Europe and also managed to hold down an 8 year residency at the Little Italy restaurant in Barcelona. Not bad for a jazz gig! The trio has recorded two cds. Meanwhile as they wait for the work to pour in! Dave is off playing with just about everyone and is about to go to Columbia. Garry is on some kind of Arthurian search for the perfect set of bass strings and continues to frighten unsuspecting catalan musicians with his hard swing and cultivated wild scottish man look. Nono dissapeared long ago into a sea of gigs and Jay is working with Los Krokodillos, teaching at L'Aula conservatori in Barcelona and currently playing in the studio band on the "Buenafuente" TV show for canal sexta.
