Socialized Hate incorporated most of the songs that were featured on the original demo, Chemical Dependency. The demo was recorded local in Tucson in 1987 and it created a positive buzz locally and internationally as we received inquires, consultations and proposals from many independent and major record companies. After Atrophy’s popularity grew, and an anxious time that seemed to go on forever, it was decided we would sign with Road Racer records. Shortly after, we found ourselves in a flea-ridden house in Los Angeles where we spent long month of work recording and mixing songs what would be Socialized Hate. The album received great reviews and we supported it with our first North American tour. The tour was a battle as we were our own road crew and the busses had a tendency spontaneously ignite into a rolling diesel smoke accommodation. After returning (and recovering) from our tour it was time to work on our next major release.During a year of having fun playing shows locally and watching our popularity grow worldwide we were also working on our next major release. We secluded ourselves in an upscale suburban house were we worked on the new material that would be Violent by Nature. The neighbors loved having us there and showed their appreciation by constantly calling the police. We finally headed out again to LA with a bigger budget and all our recent experience to apply to the new album. We had a better idea of what to expect this time and our recording efforts were refined accordingly. A month later we had completed what we felt was a more mature effort in comparison to our previous. Violent by Nature was received well critically but some felt that that our original edge was waning. Once again this release was supported by a North American tour with more support on busses that rolled smoke free. We were lucky enough to tour in Europe and the UK as well.Atrophy’s history would not have been near as robust without the support of our family’s, friends and fans. You know who you are, thank you very much...
