one language isn't enough to describe the world

About Me

I'm small-town-child, born and raised in Carinthia (Austria), moved to the bigger, but yet cosy city Graz to study and (after a couple of years abroad) plan to stay here. I'm married to the just perfect guy and have chosed the one and only profession I could really be happy with: I'm translator and interpreter by passion, just crazy about languages, books, people and the net :-) I love to laugh, talk and discuss, and I'm always the first to join you on a long walk through the nature. I'd love to live in a perfect world, but I'm realistic enough to know that it's still a long way to get there -- but hey, isn't that the beauty of live? If you haven't got anything left to achieve, any goals to reach out for, anything you'd love to change, you're grounded and might as well be below the ground already. I can't stand racism, intolerance, narrow-mindedness and bigotry, strong 'sense of missions' the "hey, you just have to see/feel/do it my way"-style

My Interests

I love to read and I adore books (you might say I'm crazy about books, and it's always difficult to get me out of a bookshop... :-) ), modern literature, but also thrillers, mysteries and detective novels... (these help me to get my mind off too much work...). And I do love good music, good movies and good wine - nothing better then watching a good film on DVD with my dear husband h.c., enjoying a glass of nice wine and sharing a good laugh... :-) I like to travel, but due to a serious lack of time, I'm mostly travelling for business (going to a conference to interpret... alas, mostly with too little time to stroll through the city the conference takes place in...). Since last September, we have an adorable feline inmate, a tom cat named Konstantin, and he's just wonderful (very lively, sometimes quite rough on us, but mostly the sweetest little fellow you could imagine...) I simply love to meet nice people, to have a good chat, to discuss whatever comes on our mind - it's great to exchange thoughts, information and opinions, and the internet is a wonderful place to meet and communicate. This urge and joy to communicate also directed me to my profession, which is also my vocation - I'm a translator, interpreter and editor, and I simply love to work with languages. I also like to cook, if I find the time to do so - and doing so, I'm keen to experiment with spices and so on, never have time to go by the book or to follow a detailed recipe, so it has to be something rather quick, and the result is not always granted... luckily, my husband and me just have a good laugh, if something doesn't turn out to be eatable, but mostly the results of my improvisations are quite presentable... :-) Well, I could go on and on, but this should give you a first idea about me... :-)

I'd like to meet:

Everybody who likes to discuss about books, language, the net, the world and how we could/might/ought to try to make it a better place to live in for everybody. People who realize, that intolerance and narrow-mindness, smugness and "me and/or my people just KNOW how it has to be done for each and everybody"-attitude just leads to a dead end, and that we all should contribute our share to spread tolerance, understanding and an "there's just one world we all live in"-attitude

Music:

R.E.M., U2, John Hiatt, Lou Reed, David Bowie, Santana, Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones, BAP, Bijelo Dugme, Vlado Kreslin, ... generally Rock, but also Jazz and Blues, also classic music (when I'm in a rather quiet mood - but that doesn't happen too often...)

Movies:

generally good thrillers and mysteries (one of my top favorites is The 6th Sense, along with Angel Heart), comedies (not just slapstick or pubertal "high school comedies")

Television:

good documentary reports and serials as Six Feet Under or CSI (StarTrek to relax and get the mind off work), good crime thrillers and mysteries, comedies, satires and comedy shows
