Monsta Entertainment is an unsigned label based in Austin Texas. The label was established by Owner/CEO Gerald G.Gerald G BiographyWhen Austin, Texas rapper Gerald G declares “only dream I ever had was put the hood on the map,†he’s making it his primary duty to take hip-hop back to its territorial essence. Be it Boogie Down Productions shouting “South Bronx†in ’86 or the Terrorists echoing “South Park†in ’95, Gerald recognizes the value of rap music as a means to instill pride within an entire community otherwise left for mandated decay.Gerald G aka Geezy was born in Compton, California, yet moved to Austin’s historic Eastside when he was merely 4 years old. Growing up in an environment steeped in a blues tradition advanced by local legends including T.D. Bell, Grey Ghost, and Ebe Bowser, Gerald embraced rap music with a grasp eerily reminiscent of those who had formerly graced East 11th Street’s Victory Grill with whirlwind capacity.Attracted during the 90’s to the voracious speed raps put forth by the likes of Twista, 2Pac, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, and ESG, Gerald G swiftly fashioned himself as a skilled engineer of highly syncopated, double-timed flow. As the new millennium kicked in, Gerald forcefully emerged as Austin’s most frequent show-stopping freestyler as he demanded the spotlight opening for headliners including Juvenile, Lil Wayne, Three 6 Mafia, Bun B, and Z-Ro. With far too many perceiving Texas rap as an all-encompassing exercise in slowed drawls, Gerald naturally recognized DJ Screw-derived antics as post-production techniques that often benefit from rappers actually speeding up their cadences.Gerald G established Monsta Entertainment in 2003 as his self-owned vehicle for business ventures done on his own terms and then teamed with fellow Austin locals Ryno and Slim Gutta to put the finishing touches on his ‘05 Monsta Mix cd. Upon lacing internationally-renowned DJ Rapid Ric’s Afta da Relays 2K6 mix with a jaw-dropping verse, Gerald was recruited to join Ric’s Whut It Dew Family along with Magno, Chalie Boy, Rob da Ryno, Bavu Blakes, and Black Mike. Beyond stellar contributions to ’06 mix cd’s including Rapid Ric’s Whut It Dew 4 and Flows from the Garage as well as Magno’s City Boyz, the most spectacular result of Geezy’s newfound affiliation unveiled itself in ’07 by way of Gerald’s own Mr. 512 mix cd.Mr. 512 expresses the full extent of Gerald G’s narrative talent, containing raps that cover everything from his spirited upbringing to the perils of residing in a drug zone to boasts of sexual prowess to heartfelt dedications to his daughter and Jesus Christ. Navigating the narrow crevices between righteousness and evil, Gerald fortifies his delivery with immovable conviction. “See, this game got consequences, yeah, in all kinds of dimensions, that’s why I keep it low-key but still on my grind relentless.†Joined by Black Mike for a reinterpretation of Lupe Fiasco’s “Kick Push,†Gerald gathers a full head of steam as he tackles “all my life’s obstacles, knowing through God I could defeat all my impossibles.â€Slated to be released in early ’08 by Monsta Entertainment working in coordination with the Dew Music group, Gerald G’s Mr. 512: The Album guarantees to impress. If road shows with his Whut It Dew Fam, a recent wig-splitting appearance on Houston’s Damage Control radio, and yet another breath-taking verse on Rapid Ric’s Afta da Relays 2K7 yield any indication, the Austin skies are nowhere near finished raining Gerald’s brand of frenetic rap down from the heavens.
