About Me

"Living together is an art." - William Pickens, Oak Park, 1932
Echoes of Chicago is a Chicago-based artists collective and network focused on building and strengthening community through arts and other forms of creative expression and supporting both art and the artists who create it. Echoes believes that supporting and connecting artists in order to develop and showcase their visions is vital to the creation and maintenance of a vibrant and community-oriented art scene in Chicago.
Whether we are conscious of it or not, art is at the center of all our lives; we live, breathe and bring it into being every day. Echoes strives to provide a forum for art and creative expression – one that is open to any medium, any age, any class, and any race. The heart and soul of Echoes is community. In this world so often overrun with selfishness and deceit, Echoes recognizes the need to create a better mode of communication in order to reunite the segregated neighborhoods of Chicago. The goal is to spark conversation, using art as a language that all people have the power both to listen to and to be heard. Too often do the people of Chicago (and the world) divide themselves on the basis of diversity. Echoes strives to create a sense of camaraderie and community by embracing our diversity through the common ground of art.

My Interests

Interests: Looking at reality in the face, being realistic, and willing to discuss and take risks to build love not complacency. We love art and people and the bond between it all...Echoes of Chicago is a non-profit artist collective. Our purpose is to promote the arts as an essential voice for sustained growth and consciousness in the community. We also aim in providing a networking avenue for those who seek a livelihood through making and sharing their art with the world. We have been united as a crew since the summer of 2004, working to discover our identity and throwing multi-media arts events. Echoes has displayed art at coffee shops, participated in creating murals, graphic design, and fundraising at street festivals throughout the city. An Echoes staple is our unique variety of hand-painted hats and screen-printed t-shirts displaying artwork by Echoes artists. Echoes of Chicago is a great group of friends growing into a think tank to take on ordinary tasks and making them extraordinary. Overall, we’re working to build and strengthen community through art.
