Oh, and Eddie Izzard, I can't believe I forgot Eddie Izzard. He is an earthbound man-god (albeit in women's clothing).Update, March 2006: Haven't done the open mic stand up in awhile, but I'll get back to it. Tired of capital letters. Eddie Izzard retains deific status.
Interesting people, who have things to teach me. This tends to include almost everyone. People who value conversation, especially conversation about nothing. Those who like to banter are particularly appreciated. Oh, and the people who keep viewing my profile. I can't help but be curious about who you are.
You Belong in Amsterdam
A little old fashioned, a little modern - you're the best of both worlds. And so is Amsterdam.
Whether you want to be a squatter graffiti artist or a great novelist, Amsterdam has all that you want in Europe (in one small city).
What European City Do You Belong In?
Just about everything except for some new country, but the stuff I've been listening to lately includes Ed's Reedeeming Qualities, The Beatles, Crass, Bob Dylan, Jane's Addiction, Keane, Leonard Cohen, Metallica, the Shins, Belle & Sebastian and whatever else is in my car. Oh and the classic CDs Bombay the Hard Way and Bombay II, Electric Vindaloo!!Update, March 2006: I still listen to all these bands. I'm willing to admit that Abba is also in my car. I have also grown to appreciate some of the new country. Woowee, shut my mouth, slap your grandma.
The Shawshank Redemption, Most Spike Lee Stuff I've Seen, Fight Club, Jaws, So I Married an Axe Murderer, O'Brother Where Art Thou?, them lefty John Sayles flicks, Anything from Monty Python or Mel Brooks prior to Spaceballs (shameless, I know), and the collected works of James Colston.Update, March 2006: I've seen some good movies lately, but were they worthy of a change in the list? I think not. I should have put Ghost World on here though. There are some other movies I should have put on here but film snobs are more difficult to deal with than music snobs, food snobs, and really any other types of snobs, so I'm leaving a few off the list.
A wasteland, but I'm a part-time resident so um, The Hollow Men, Kids in the Hall, Northern Exposure, Benny Hill, That show with Bill Moyers, Ed. Update March 2006: Are any of these shows still on? I actually watch Grays Anatomy now, and some other stuff as well. The Simpsons of course, remains the most telling social commentary of our era. I lament the cancellation of the Hollow Men, but somehow, someway, I will get Vag Badger on my Profile Page.
Cat's Cradle and anything else by Vonnegut, David Sedaris (Yes!!), Tom Robbins, Anything by George Orwell, Mark Twain (esp. Huck Finn), and most recently, Food Court Druids, Cherohonkees and Other Creatures Unique to the Republic by Lanham. Oh, and those collections of stories from The Onion. Update, March 2006: I've been reading lots of non-fiction lately, but I'm not putting any on the list. Mostly my usual lefty political drivel. However, I read Wicked by Gregory MaGuire and I feel it was the best work of fiction I've read in years.
Kate and Michael of Willits, CA. Update, March 2006: They are still my heroes.
