About Me

The Black October are a 6-piece melodic-metal band from Port Elizabeth. They tend to add some 70's/80's pop synthesizer sounds in the mix just to make things interesting. It has been said that they sound like a musical orgasm. The band was born in late-August/early-September 2006 and played their first gig on 13 October of that same year. When founding member and guitarist,Mark, left to pursue other musical ventures, they found the perfect replacement in Hugo. They performed their second gig on 15 December 2006. The success of the gig helped a lot with getting them on the PE-scene's map. It wasn't long before they found themselves not just playing with some well known bands, but also, headlining at gigs that followed. After the first year, the band's music evolved from what was known as metalcore, to a more technical brand of melodic metal. In this time they departed with their original drummer, J.O., who was replaced by long time band friend Steven.
They are now considered one of the top bands on the scene, especially after the release of their self-titled debut EP in January 2008. They've gone on to play with some of South Africa's most popular bands, Wickhead and Chromium to name a few. They we're also invited to play at the Metal-4-Africa metal festival in Stellenbosch. A DVD was recorded at the event and will be released by Metal-4-Africa later in the year. It will include the first three songs of each band that performed there.
In 2008 alone they've already played more gigs than in the first two years combined. They are determined to get their name out to the masses and will not disappoint when you see them live.
