BLACK LEAVES album out in stores!!!!!!!!!! MUSIC MOODZ (Woodlands)
Tranquil blew away the SA music scene starting off with a couple of shows around Pretoria and working their way to gaining the Joburg scene's respect. After 4 short months of playing together, Tranquil got the chance to share the stage with SA's finest musicians at Oppikoppi 13, which cemented them as one of SA's finest heavy metal bands. They played a couple of prestigious events such as Wildt Rock Fest 2007, Zeplins Birthday, Grim fest and Global battle of the bands (national finalists) and were on the line up for Witchfest 2007, but unfortunately the festival was cancelled.
2008 saw Tranquil looking forward to their first national tour, The Detonation Tour, in March 2008, where they hit the road to Cape Town, Durban, Pe, Pietermaritzburg and Gauteng with Architecture of Aggression, The Dead Will Tell and Hades Factor, and also joined by 20 other guest and battle bands.Their full-length debut album, ‘Black Leaves’, recorded at Groundlevel Studios, was released at their launch at Tempos in July, after being much anticipated by their fans and proving to be a great success.
Unfortunately, Tranquil received a devastating blow due to the loss of their guitarist, Daniel Kwak, who sustained a permanent injury and had to leave the band. After playing as a foursome at the birth of the amazing Lucky Fish Festival, 2009 welcomed Tranquil's new guitarist, Shaun, and a whole new set of metal mayhem.
Tranquil have worked hard to get to where they are, and though their climb has been tough, they have proven themselves worthy as a heavy South African metal band, and will continue to climb and cause metal chaos in the future.
Tranquil was formed around March 2007. Daniel Weber and Daniel Kwak played together for about a year previously in additional bands getting familiar with each others styles of playing and musical influences. After playing in a separate band for about 8 months, they decided to leave and start fresh as that musical endeavour showed no potential for growth. After forming a new band, they found Van through a friend who now fills the current drums position. The current bassist, Jerry, who Daniel knew from previous bands and school, filled the bass role. Garreth, who had also been part of a previous band but had to move to UK with his family, then returned to fill the vocals position and so completed the current line-up. After receiving a permanent injury, guitarist Daniel Kwak had to leave the band mid 2008, which was devastating to the band. After playing as a foursome for a few months, Tranquil appeared as a 5-piece again, joined by new guitarist Shaun, on stage, completing the current 5-piece set-up.
“A towering double-bass drum roll, from the Most Amazing stage, pulls me from my beer glass to see here on the stage at two in the afternoon on Thursday, five men hard at work getting a mosh pit going. Metal in the afternoon?
The vocalist lets out a growl and the guys in the mosh pit swing their heads like angry bulls. A few lost, half-asleep campers come stumbling to the stage to get a better view. It’s Tranquil, the winners of Tuks FM’s Demofilter competition. The roar of Garreth’s voice and the amazing guitar work from all corners of the stage leaves an impression that these five are here to stay. If you’ve had enough to drink, you could jump into the mosh pit and easily believe you’re at Download festival, watching Slayer.
Watch out for Tranquil, these guys could drink Jeyes Fluid!â€
