BEACON POINT

Terry Parsons & Bill Whalen

About Me

Beacon Point is Terry Parsons and Bill Whalen. Both come from a long family history of music and are well-known local musicians,so the full,easy-on-the-ear sound of this disc is no surprise. Small town is there first album together, and while style and influence vary from track to track, the disc over is a cohesive one.Title-track "small Town" has some sweet country overtones while "Dreaming in love" sets a little more in the pop arena. The sunny "Mr sunshine",maybe even has a tone of be-bop,and it's guaranteed to make you smile and tap. Most tracks were written by Parsons alone, with Whalen co-writing four. But no matter what the tune, the lyrics are thought-full,honest and without pretension.A great disc.Karla H. IF YOU CAN DREAM IT........YOU CAN DO IT......... Terry comes from a background of musical talent, so originally composed work comes at no surprise. He was born to parents from Bell Island, Newfoundland, who wrote, performed, and toured the Newfoundland scene.Terry started performing in clubs at a young age and perfected the live performance the only way possible - through sheer determination. He held down full time jobs during the work week and separately performed cover tunes in assorted bands three nights a week in St. John’s and Newfoundland for many years. In 80's Terry played his originals in the renowned George Street Festival and Strand Lounge where his voice was likened to the late Thin Lizzy’s Phil Lynott (Newfoundland Herald July 1087) The 90's brought bass and vocals with The Privateers album “Taken by Storm.” He was touted as a ‘well rounded musician, good bass player’ (The Express Sept., 1992) Terry personally funded a release of a compilation of his original songs in 1994. The drive to record his work has always been there, but not until he teamed with band-mate, Bill Whalen, who collaborated with Terry in the release of this album.Bill himself has composed songs for privately funded album in conjunction with the late Ray McLean. He opened up for the Carlton Showband, playing with members of the Gold selling Album makers The Newfoundland Showband in 1995.As one lyric from Smalltown says, “I’m gonna make it, I know, someday, Terry Parsons is doing just that. DEBUT ALBUM SMALLTOWNThis well seasoned artist after 4 years is releasing a debut album “smalltown”. In the fall of 2007 through the grace of the internet, Steve Adams, Los Angeles based guitarist recorded his guitar for the song “On My Own” on this album. After years of giving up weekends to set up and tear down gear to play gigs in small bar venues around our fair city and beyond, Terry is finally “making it on my own.”
