I am here for Friends

About Me

Hmm ... In kindergarten I remember a class coloring assignment. There I was, dutifully filling in the outline of a rainbow and listening to my pigtailed classmates discussing their favorite colors. Then, someone commented that their favorite color used to be yellow, but now it was pink.
I put down my crayon as a statement of disagreement. A favorite color was something so important that it should remain unchanged forever! So I made a promise to myself right then that my favorite color would always be red.
So, that's one thing about me: my favorite color is red. I've kept my promise, which, I think, is pretty important.

I'm also a big fan of parenthesis and especially the underappreciated semicolon.

My Interests

I thought of putting something witty here but I guess I'll just list my interests.
Writing, reading, raking leaves, Scandinavia in general, the Baha'i Faith, visiting new places, baking, DDR, caricaturing, drawing, tae kwon do, anything purposefully not mainstream, boxes because you can make stuff out of them, Jenga, Carcassone, walking or jogging if I feel particularly inspired, painting furniture loud colors, remembering in the middle of the afternoon the dreams that I had last night, cartwheels.

I'd like to meet:

Oh, everybody.

Music:

They Might Be Giants, etc.

Movies:

The Ladykillers, Searching for Bobby Fischer, Fight Club, The Emperor's New Groove, 2001, I Heart Huckabees, Signs, Catch Me If You Can, Willow.

no. more. school.

Graduated. Buh-bam. I can't quite get used to that idea. Or maybe I just think that I can't get used to it, because I feel the same as I did before. Shouldn't I feel different? Is the fact that I don'...

silly complaint from a student

I haven't studied much about Freud so I can't say that I agree or disagree with him, but I do think that one's subconscious can affect behavior. Example: you want to impress someone you respect (let's...

Who's seen The Ladykillers? I had the pleasure of seeing it last week and I thoroughly enjoyed it, except! ... except for one element. One of the characters in this movie has an ongoing illness ca...

self-centered babies

Note: In this entry I use the pronoun he. I write this way because I have seriously looked at the arguments that some feminist movements make for the replacement of he with s/he or she or he, ...

sun exhibit

An exhibit on the Sun sits in the Chicago Planetarium. Its a predicable exhibit; yellow with a roundish shape, spotted with panels that little kids or unashamed grown-ups can lift up to find trivia i...

first entry

I like writing. At some point in my life, I would love to have the time to concentrate on writing something good. Like a collection of short stories, or a novel. I tried to write a novel once but I co...
