"It's a long way to Tipperary...", I love this line, specially when sung by Keith Richards on the Licks Tour at The Point in Dublin!
But I'm not Irish. I'm Catalan. But my country still does not exist for the world. That's why I use another country, Ireland usually, because mine still does not appear in the list. And Northern Ireland holds an issue like the one of my country.
My country is "Els Països Catalans" (The Catalan Countries), still an oppressed nation by French and Spanish States on the XXI'st century, with its own rich culture, with its own language (Catalan) with about 11 million speakers, still not fully recognized in the European Union (funny, though great of course, that Celtic, with so few speakers, has more rights than Catalan). As Catalan writer Isabel-Clara Simó recently said, "Bulgaria is entering the EC, and a new language with it, and Catalan is still not fully recognized...". All in all, a whole amount of shit.
One example of this savagely hidden culture, is that Antoni Gaudà (not "Antonio"), the great architect, was Catalan, and he was even imprisoned once for not obeing the Spanish police when forcing him to speak Spanish, in his own city, Barcelona, in his own country, Catalonia, one of the Catalan Countries.
