Menhaj Huda - Director

making films for the next generation

About Me

Menhaj Huda, otherwise known as Huds, directing career began with a ground breaking dance music show (Hypnosis) for Channel 4 in the early 90's. This was followed by 5 years of music and youth programmes for Channel 4 while running his own production company with a couple of friends making commercials and music videos. Then came a short film called "Jump Boy" (which you can catch on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4hOc7a8TTyk.This film was unlike anything around at the time, an urban tale that was in-yer-face and hard-hitting that wasn't going to ignored. It was obvious his career and was about to take a different path as the world of drama and feature films came calling. First up, another short 'segment' for a feature film called "Tube Tales", followed by "Queer As Folk 2" his first TV drama. That was followed by the infamous film of the Ibiza book "Is Harry On The Boat?". These were directing gigs, but what Huds was really looking for was a script that picked up where "Jump Boy" left off, and luckily it arrived on his desk at the end of 2002 thanks to one of the actors from JB.Huds met the writer of "Kidulthood" in January 2003 and told him "I'm going to get this film made". When no-one in the industry backed them, Huds decided to put his neck on the line and finance part of it himself. The film was released in March this year and has done outstanding business for a film of this scale. He won the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director at the British Independent Film Awards 2006.He is currently developing films both in UK and in L.A. aimed at young audiences who enjoy edgy but commercial material.Click to zoom in on my visitor map!
