From FrankODelic and Christian: A gas boycott isn't going to reduce long term gas prices .

The ugly truth is this... gas prices are going to continue to skyrocket NO MATTER WHAT WE DO! World oil supplies are dwindling and demand for the stuff is increasing dramatically every year. It's a basic supply and demand problem that's only going to get worse.

That said, don't despair... there are certainly things we can do to ease the pain;

WHEN TRAVELING LOCALLY, TRY THIS...
Walk, skateboard, roller blade, ride a push scooter , bike , electric scooter , electric bike , gas scooter , motor scooter , moped , segway , powerboard , or Neighborhood Electric Vehicle (NEV).

WHEN TRAVELING FAR, TRY THIS...

Electric bike , motor scooter , moped , bus, subway, other mass transit, carpool, electric car , biodiesel car , or hybrid car .

IF YOU HAVE TO DRIVE A GAS POWERED VEHICLE, FOLLOW THESE TIPS:

* Get rid of your low mileage gas guzzler. Replace it with a high mileage car.
* Have your car tuned regularly. An engine tune-up can improve car fuel economy by an average of 1 mile per gallon.
* Keep your tires properly inflated. Under-inflated tires can decrease fuel economy by up to 1 mile per gallon.
* Slow down. The faster you drive, the more gasoline your car uses. Driving at 65 miles per hour rather than 55 miles per hour reduces fuel economy by about 2 miles per gallon.
* Avoid jackrabbit starts. Abrupt starts require about twice as much gasoline as gradual starts.
* Pace your driving. Unnecessary speedups, slowdowns and stops can decrease fuel economy by up to 2 miles per gallon.
* Use your air conditioner sparingly. The use of air conditioning can reduce fuel economy by as much as 2 miles per gallon.
* Remove excess weight. Avoid keeping unnecessary items in your vehicle, especially heavy ones. An extra 100 pounds in your vehicle could reduce your MPG by up to 2%.
* Avoid lengthy engine idling. Turn your engine off when you are delayed for more than a couple of minutes.
* Plan your trips carefully. Combine short trips into one to do all your errands. Avoid traveling during rush hours if possible, to reduce fuel-consumption patterns such as starting and stopping and numerous idling periods. Consider joining a car pool.

YOU HAVE A VOICE... USE IT! SIGN THESE PETITIONS: (If you don't have time to sign these petitions, you've given up your right to whine about what you pay for gas!)Tell Congress to Strengthen Fuel Economy Standards - Union of Concerned ScientistsPetition for Plug-In Hybrids - Plug-In PartnersMake Congress "Oil-Free" - MoveOn.org

VOTE!When it comes time to vote, make sure your candidate doesn't take campaign contributions from the oil industry, and make sure they passionately support efforts to strengthen fuel economy standards and the development of alternative fuel vehicles.

20 Ways To Be Green - how YOU can change your lifestyle overnight to help your environment and save your money.

ENERGY AND HOME

1. Save heat and electricity at home. Energy Savers Booklet Invest in low energy light bulbs, draught proofing, insulation and such like, and save £1000s.

2. Don’t leave lights and appliances on when their use is unnecessary. A chilling fact: if all UK households left their TVs on standby over one night, enough carbon dioxide would be produced to fill 38 Millennium Domes.

3. Change to a solar water heating system; a cost-saving set-up is becoming more and more popular in the UK. It pays back within two to three years, and then starts to save you money.

4. Reduce water consumption by fixing taps, taking showers rather than baths, and installing a water butt in the garden. Cleaning water requires huge amounts of energy and chemicals. Use your grey water in the garden.

5. Don’t tip large amounts of chemicals down the sink. It only ends up in your local ecosystems where your food comes from. Furthermore, too clean and sterile a house reduces your immunity systems, especially in children. Be thoughtful about cleaning.

6. Welcome garden wildlife with flowers, berries, ponds, hedges etc, it will bring great pleasure to your life.

WASTE-REDUCING IT:

7. Reuse, repair and reclaim – one person’s junk is another’s treasure. Fixing things can be hugely satisfying and saves buying another. Visit local charity/community shops.

8. It is better to reuse materials than to recycle them.. This applies to all sorts - glass, tins, paper, plastic, foil, clothes….even shoes.

9. Compost kitchen waste or give it to a gardening friend.

SHOPPING

10. Buy local food. In doing so, you’re reducing the huge environmental costs of shipping food all over the world. Plus, you’re supporting the local producers.

11. Buy products that come from farming and manufacture techniques that you approve of. For example, don’t buy battery eggs if you can afford it. It’s an appalling form of farming. Don’t buy clothes that are manufactured in sweatshops across the globe.

12. Grow your own fruit and vegetables. Allotments are very cheap, the food is far tastier, you get fresh air and exercise, and it’s satisfying.

13. Try not to buy goods with excess packaging. You pay for what you throw away.

TRANSPORT

14. Try walking short trips. Walking more means better health which in turn brings better quality of life. Less car use saves petrol expense.

15. Use public transport or bikes for longer trips. Or investigate in car-sharing. Check out local travel options.

16. Buy a compact car and keep it running efficiently. The slower you go on the highway, the less gas you consume. Turn off your engine if you will be idle for longer than one minute.

ACTION

17. Support and join Charities and NGOs (Non-Governmental Organisations) that are working towards Sustainable Development and fighting for our futures.

18. Boycott companies and their products that put profits before people and planet. Use your power as a consumer.

19. Tell people about what you’re doing.

20. Treat the Natural World as your number one possession. It’s more important than having ten pairs of shoes or three cars. Get out there and enjoy its peace and beauty.

My Interests

He can only hold her for so long
The lights are on but no one's home
She's so vacant Her soul is taken
He thinks, "What she's running from?"
How can he have her heart
When it got stole
Though he tries to pacify her
What's inside her never dies
Even if she's content in his warmth
She gets pained with urgency
Searching kisses
The man she misses
The man that he longs to be
Now how can he have her heart
When it got stole
So he tries to pass it by
Cause what's inside'll never die
As he tries to pacify her
Cause what's inside her never dies
Typical interests: eating, sleeping, music, movies, TV, reading. I'm a hippie-wannabe: I care about alternative energy; Taiwan/Tibet independence from China; practicality of the war on Iraq (or the lack thereof); the inefficienices of "No child left behind"; the disgusting repression of Plan B; gay rights; etc.

There are many simple things you can do in your daily life — what you eat, what you drive, how you build your home — that can have an effect on your immediate surroundings, and on places as far away as Antactica.

Click here to post this on your page or 'blogThe Top Ten Things Food Companies Don't Want You To Know
The giant food corporations have one mission: selling more food and beverage products to consumers. Succeeding with that mission depends on keeping consumers in the dark on certain issues such as the presence cancer-causing chemicals found in popular food products.

Here are ten things the food corporations, whose products dominate grocery store shelves across the United States and other countries, absolutely do not want you to know.

1. The ingredients listed on the label aren't the only things in the food. Cancer-causing chemicals such as acrylamides may be formed in the food during high-heat processing, yet there's no requirement to list them on the label. Residues of solvents, pesticides and other chemicals may also be present, but also do not have to be listed. The National Uniformity for Food Act, currently being debated in the U.S. Congress, would make it illegal (yes, illegal) for states to require cancer warnings on foods that contain cancer-causing chemicals (such as California's Proposition 65.) See articles on the Food Uniformity Act .

2. Monosodium glutamate (MSG), which is added to thousands of food and grocery products through a dozen different innocent-sounding ingredients, imbalances endocrine system function, disabling normal appetite regulation and causing consumers to keep eating more food. This chemical not only contributes to nationwide obesity, it also helps food companies boost repeat business. See articles on MSG .

3. MSG is routinely hidden in foods in these ingredients: yeast extract, torula yeast, hydrolyzed vegetable protein and autolyzed yeast. Thousands of common grocery products contain one or more of these chemical taste enhancers, including nearly all "vegetarian" foods such as veggie burgers (read labels to check). See Food manufacturers hide dangerous ingredients in everyday foods by using confusing terms on the label .

4. ADHD in children is caused almost entirely by the consumption of processed food ingredients such as artificial colors and refined carbohydrates. Eighty percent of so-called ADHD children who are taken off processed foods are cured of ADHD in two weeks. See articles on ADHD .

5. The chemical sweetener aspartame , when exposed to warm temperatures for only a few hours, begins to break down into chemicals like formaldehyde and formic acid. Formaldehyde is a potent nerve toxin and causes damage to the eyes, brain and entire nervous system . Aspartame has been strongly linked to migraines, seizures, blurred vision and many other nervous system problems. See articles on aspartame .

6. Most food dips (like guacamole dip) are made with hydrogenated oils, artificial colors and monosodium glutamate. Many guacamole dips don't even contain avocados.

7. Plastic food packaging is a potent health hazard. Scientists now know that plastics routinely seep the chemical bisphenol A into the food, where it is eaten by consumers. Cooking in plastic containers multiplies the level of exposure. Bisphenol is a hormone disruptor and can cause breast formation in men and severe hormonal imbalances in women. It may also encourage hormone-related cancers such as prostate cancer and breast cancer. See Plastics chemical bisphenol A found to promote prostate cancer in animal studies .

8. Milk produced in the United States comes from cows injected with synthetic hormones that have been banned in every other advanced nation in the world. These hormones help explain why unusually young teenage girls develop breasts at such a young age, or why hormone-related cancers like prostate cancer are being discovered in unprecedented numbers. In order to protect Monsanto, the manufacturer of hormones used in the industry, the USDA currently bans organic milk producers from claiming their milk comes from cows that were not treated with synthetic hormones. Even organic milk is now under fire as the Organic Consumers Association says Horizon milk products are falsely labeled as organic. See Horizon milk, Wild Oats named in consumer boycott of "false" organic products . (The solution to all this? Drink raw almond milk instead. Make it yourself with a Vitamix, water and a nut milk bag.)

9. Most grocery products that make loud health claims on their packaging are, in reality, nutritionally worthless (like meal replacement shakes, instant chocolate milk, etc.). The most nutritious foods are actually those the FDA does not allow to make any health claims whatsoever: fresh produce. See articles on food labeling .

10. Food manufacturers actually "buy" shelf space and position at grocery stores. That's why the most profitable foods (and hence, the ones with the lowest quality ingredients) are the most visible on aisle end caps, checkout lanes and eye-level shelves throughout the store. The effect of all this is to provide in-store marketing and visibility to the very foods and beverages that promote obesity , diabetes, cancer, heart disease and other degenerative conditions now ravaging consumers around the world. See articles on food marketing.

Praise and thanks be to Him, We’re alive and full of vim. Through the world we dash, Though we’re rather short of cash. But we don’t find this provoking And none of us are choking. Besides, to people I’m tied Who carry their muck inside And let it out, if they are able, Both before and after table. At night of farts there is no lack, Which are let off, forsooth, with a powerful crack. The king of farts came yesterday Whose farts smelt sweeter than the may. His voice, however, was no treat And he himself was in a heat. Well, now we’ve been over a week away And we’ve been shitting every day. Wendling, no doubt, is in a rage That I haven’t composed a single page; But when I cross the Rhine once more, I’ll surely dash home through the door And, lest he call me mean and petty, I’ll finish off his four quartetti. The concerto for Paris I’ll keep, ‘tis more fitting. I’ll scribble it there some day when I’m shitting. Indeed I swear ‘twould be far better fun With the Webers around the world to run Than to go with those bores, you know whom I mean, When I think of their faces, I get the spleen. But I suppose it must be and off we shall toddle, Though Weber’s arse I prefer to Ramm’s noodle. A slice of Weber’s arse is a thing I’d rather have than Monsieur Wendling. With our shitting God we cannot hurt And least of all if we bite the dirt. We are honest birds, all of a feather, We have summa summarum eight eyes together, Not counting those on which we sit. But now I really must rest a bit From Rhyming. Yet this I must add, That on Monday I’ll have the honour, egad, To embrace you and kiss your hands so fair. But first in my pants I’ll shit, I swear. Heroes:

In general: Anyone offering assistance in a third-world nation, particularly in regions with political instability and social unrest. Also, veterans. Individuals: Alexander Hamilton - too many reasons to explain right now. "The voice of the people has been said to be the voice of God; and, however generally this maxim has been quoted and believed, it is not true to fact. The people are turbulent and changing, they seldom judge or determine right. " Another hero is Ben Franklin

He wasn't THAT BAD to his son, either, OKAY?
