About Me

Nicole Elikolani Prescovia Scherzinger was born on June 29, 1978 in Honolulu, Hawaii to a Filipino father and a Hawaiian/Russian mother. Her mother, Rosemary, was a hula dancer from a large Hawaiian family and taught her to hula at a very young age. Rosemary married Gary Scherzinger when Nicole was very young. At age 7, her stepfather Gary moved the family to Louisville, Kentucky.Nicole knew from a young age that she wanted to be a performer. She attened a youth performing arts high school where she received training in singing, acting and dancing. While in high school, she won the Coca-Cola Classic Talent Contest. Her first professional play was at the Actor Theatre of Louisville .After graduating from high school, Nicole attened Wright State University in Dayton, OH majoring in theatre arts and minoring in dance. She continued to pursue her passion for singing and acting and consequently starred in such musicals as Chicago and Showboat. While in school, Nicole recorded demos with Days of the New singer, Travis Meeks and was later asked to join the band on tour. She agreed and dropped out of school to join the tour and even recorded background vocals for the band's second album, Days of the New II.Nicole returned to Louisville after the tour ended and worked on a few demos to shop for a record deal. In 2001, her mother Rosemary, a huge fan of Making the Band, saw an ad for an all-girl group being put together for a WB reality show. At the urgence of her mother, Nicole somewhat recluctantly attended the auditions. Initially afraid that the nature of the Spice Girls-esque audition would mar her professional training, Nicole decided to attend the audition with an open-mind and was eventually picked as one of five girls to be in the group. The girls decided on the name, Eden's Crush and released their first single, Get Over Yourself, on March 13, 2001. The single-debuted at #1 on the Billboard Sales Chart and #8 on the Hot 100, making Eden's Crush the first girl group to debut at #1.During 2001, Eden's Crush toured with boyband Nsync. Their debut album, Popstars, eventually went Gold and the girls appeared on TV shows including Live with Regis and Kelly and Sabrina, the Teenage Witch and in numerous teen magazines. Nicole even found the time to record a song with Shaquille O'Neal, a collaboration made possible by then boyfriend, Nick Hexum. Unfortunately, the group's success was short-lived. Their record label, London-Sire, folded in late 2001, leaving Eden's Crush without a record deal. The group was left in limbo and the girls eventually decided to part ways in lue of searching for another deal.Nicole spent most of 2002 and 2003 working on demos and recording solo material that appeared on albums such as the 50 First Dates Soundtrack. She also landed roles in movies Chasing Papi and Love Don't Cost Thing and tv shows, My Wife and Kids and Half and Half. Wanting to distance herself from her Popstars past and start fresh, she took on the stage name Nicole Kea, her grandmother's maiden name. In 2003, her roommate in Los Angeles mentioned that she would be attended an open audition for popular Burlesque group, The Pussycat Dolls. Although she was unfamiliar with the dance troupe, Nicole was intrigued after learning that Interscope President Jimmy Iovine and famed producer/A&R executive Ron Fair were involved in the project. After missing the audition, Nicole worked her connections and was able to audition for the powers that be in charge of the Pussycat Dolls. After blowing away Iovine, Fair and PCD creator Robin Antin with her singing and dancing abilities, Nicole was asked to join the group as the lead singer. The Pussycat Dolls made their major label debut in 2005 and have been riding the wave of success since their first single, Don't Cha, reached the top of the Billboard charts. The Dolls have sold over 3 million copies worldwide and earned two Top 10 singles in the U.S.As PCD continues their assault on the music charts, Nicole is gearing up for a solo album to be released in the near future.
