To live a creative life, we must lose our fear of being wrong.

About Me

Silvio Rodriguez - Unicornio
Angela Gheorghiu - Casta Diva
Feeling Good Again (cover)
This is one of my favorite Robert Earl Keen songs but couldn't find a clip with him...so this is the next best thing.
RJD2
I caught him live once and was so friggin' impressed at his skills. To take a sample-based creation and perform it live in this manner is just so sick. This video gives you an idea of what his show is like.=====================================================
"Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try Again. Fail again. Fail better." - Samuel Beckett
"Quit smiling, We ain't won shit yet" - Chuck D
"I will not engage in the politics of fear. Because fear is poisonous. All through history it has been used to hold back progress and limit fairness. Only hope destorys fear. It always has" - Deval Patrick

"The best explanation I've seen of "simple living" is that it is about discovering what is enough in your life and discarding the rest." - Russell Coleman

From the Sunday Los Angeles Times interview with Chen Kaige, director of "Farewell My Concubine" and 'The Promise".
As an individual living in a society, so many things influence me, make me feel like there's something I want to express. Because as a film director, on the one hand, I have to think about commercial stuff. But on the other, I always think about what is the important message that I can put into a film. I'm tired of this kind of commercialism, materialism around us. We're losing our old lifestyle. I'm not saying it's suitable for everybody, but I think we're losing the way we used to live. And everybody becomes very busy without a purpose. What is the purpose?
Also, people pay very little attention to the culture. Here it's different, you know. American culture is very young, people don't normally look back, learn from history. There's nothing to learn — let's just go ahead and do what we want to do. But in China, it's a big country, a lot of people and beautiful traditions. There's always a need for us to get something from the past.

My Interests

art, design, film, photography and bacon cheeseburgers (so far the best I found is at Philly's Steak Depot over on Santa Monica Blvd.)

I'd like to meet:

Nat King Cole, Nina Simone and Frank Sinatra

Music:

I'm all over the place - indie rock, hip hop, country....I'm just a mixed basket of trail mix - you get nuts, dried pineapples, raisins and the occasional chocolate...so, the usual suspects : Depeche Mode, Editors, Feist, Monsters are Waiting, El Ten Eleven, Explosions in the Skies, Hive, London Elektricity, Robert Earl Keen, Tom Petty, Nina Simone, well the list goes on and on....

Movies:

I'm behind on my films but the latest one I'm digging is Pan's Labyrinth Also just saw White Light, Black Rain, a documentary on the dropping of the atomic bomb in Japan.

Television:

I'm old-school - Simpsons and Seinfeld. I usually don't have much time for television and I usually get home around 10 - which of course is when Seinfeld and Simpsons come on.

Books:

Mostly non-fiction books - usually on historical books. Currently reading Unmasking LA : Third Worlds and the City. One of my favorite's is Oscar Hijueleos' 1989 masterpiece "The Mambo Kings Play Songs of Love" and Shawn Wong's "American Knees". My books tend to be more reference so there's plenty of photography books.

Heroes:

The quiet heroes that people don't know about. The ones that help people on a daily basis.
