Found January 2001, the “Transformation†project gathers six professional
musicians working along ethno/world music lines:
- Snejka Borissova: An experienced folklore vocalist, singer at the Bulgarian
Folklore Ensemble “Philip Koutevâ€. Snejka has recorded solo voices
for the original soundtrack of Goran Bregovich's "Underground" and some vocal versions of the "Arizona Dream" and "Queen Margot" soundtracks, as well.
- Tsvetan Chobanov: A saxophone and wooden flute performer with degree at the Bulgarian National Academy of Music â€P.Vladigerovâ€; does the orchestration, music arrangements and computer programming for the project.
- Jassmin Issinov: A classical piano performer with degree at the Bulgarian
National Academy of Music â€P. Vladigerovâ€; Contributes with keyboards, music arrangements and computer programming for the project.
- Emil Nikolov: A bagpipe player with rich performing background. Student in
Plovdiv University of Music Arts.
- Alex G: guitar player;
- MesCaleX: pon di mic
Main conception of the project is combining Bulgarian folklore music
performed at its authentic method and vocals by Snejka Borissova with modern electronic sound of keyboards, samplers, modules. Thus, melodies of the most popular Bulgarian folklore instruments - bagpipe and wooden flute – are set within the electro/drum’n’bass frame and vocal background. The unique mixng of specific voices and gathering of different music styles make Transformation a project with no analogy in the world.
Within a year and a half the records of the debut album “Transformations†were executed in Graffitti Studio – Sofia, Bulgaria with participation of guest musicians:
Mihail Yalandjiev /Tzaro/ - drums and Kamen Alexandrov – guitar.
The “Transformations†music stores the energy and the spirit of the Balkan regional traditions and combines preferences of a wide range audience.
Transformation took part at the ethno festival “SlanceLuna†at Trigrad, Bulgaria in August 2002. At the Festival of Electronic Music 2002 in Sofia Transformation performed alongside Transglobal Underground, Fun Da Mental
and many more ethno/world formations.
In the summer of 2003 Transformation were invited and participated at the Pierres Levees festival in Belgium together with Zion Train and State of Bengal, and Beat Root Festival in Budapest, Hungary.
