They're here. I'd like to say that I go horseriding, skating and skiing, but I don't. I have been know to go on organised walks in South Tyneside and revel in the fact I'm the youngest there by 20 years. Music, books, tv and film are the things I love.
I also love being in the North East of England. I'm very attached to the area, having spent all but 3 years here. However, I'll also be drawn to say that Staffordshire is a pretty good place too.
I like to travel although there isn't enough money to throw around. I reached one of my "before I die" goals, which was to go to Florence. I went to the Cologne Christmas markets last year and hopefully in 2008 I'll get further afield.
I'd like to meet:
I'd normally say Lloyd Cole - but I have met him and I think he'll take out a restraining order if I bump into him again. Not that I embarrassed myself. I just like to go to his concerts.
I'd like to spend some time on the Hotel Cafe Tour tour bus - because that sounds like a blast.
I'd like to meet George Clooney - because he seems like a nice guy even though the world wants to get into his pants. I also like the fact that he's a guy who didn't get success straight away and has principles.
And David Tennant. I saw a "Who do you think you are?" program about him looking at his genealogy. Before I saw it I thought that him as a person would be disappointing - most actors are very boring - far more boring than their characters. But by the end I wanted to have a beer and a chat in the Forth in Newcastle - and I tell you there is no higher accolade.
Music:
I like my music loud, live and a little folky. You'll find some stuff that may not fit into all these categories below
Lloyd Cole
Kate Aumonier
Tom McRae
Marwood
Ari Hest
Emily Zuzik
Hue and Cry
Del Amitri
James Blunt
Jason Mraz
Seth Lakeman
The Feeling
Nelly Furtado
Chris Stout
John Dipper
Bruce Springsteen
And I think I'm going to the Whitby Folk Week next year, although I'm scouting out the camping (erk!) at the moment.
Movies:
Confession time - I've got a Masters Degree in Cultural and Film Studies. But I've got the worst taste in film. I'll watch anything as long as it doesn't have Steven Segal in it or it's too gory. (And I've just taken it a step further by watching that Steven Segal film where he's a cook on a ship which has been taken over. I was routing for the baddies - Go! Tommy Lee! Kick Segal's arse!)
The only film I've ever walked out on is the animated version of the King and I (Note to Hanna Barbera if you're going to do an animated film at least try to compete with the Pixelar, Disney, Bluth standards). I did fall asleep during Presumed Innocent - but my defence is that I'd already seen it once and went along to keep a friend company.
Television:
I've become addicted to NCIS. I don't know why and I haven't seen all of them, but I'm working my way through on FX in the UK.
I tend to like Science Fiction and Fantasy type stuff, so I've been watching Torchwood and Stargate SG1. I'm love Heroes (I watched it on Sci Fi). I still can't decide whether Primeval is really crap or really good. The guy who plays Stephen is wrecking my crap-o-meter. And I'll be watching Doctor Who when it comes back.
I love watching "Strictly Come Dancing" and "Dancing with the Stars". I like to see people perform - but I'm so over the voting thing. I'd rather see a variety show than people being put down. The best thing about having Sky plus is that your can fast forward your way through the judging.
I can't bear to see people being put down or animals harmed. That said, I love watching the Dog Whisperer. I think what Cesar Milan says could be translated into every day life. All you need is calm assertive energy and rules boundaries and limitations.
Books:
Okay - so this is a bit of a specific one for me and it means that I have to scour book shops for new authors because I tend to read my way through an author's opus in double quick time. I like my fantasy to be rooted in history or at least an alternative version of earth - so Moog the Warrior of Orgalon gets chucked onto the "hell no" pile.
This usually ends up with me e-mailing the author and railing against the fact that they're not writing fast enough.
My favourite authors are
Philip Rickman
Mark Chadbourne
Terry Pratchet
Robert Holdstock
Robert HarrisI will also read chick lit as long as it's funny and not melodramatic. And I've read a book recently by a guy called Mike Gayle called Brand New Friend which I'd recommend to anyone who's had a friend of the opposite sex.
Heroes:
Anyone who fights oppression. I'm very moved by people standing up for other people and fighting for what they believe in.
