Matt
Until his freshman year in college, Matt had only been interested playing classical piano. A desire to shift to guitar spawned in him after roadying for his friend's band Smirch. Matt played the guitar flat on his lap, depressing the strings with his left thumb saying "this is the way to play guitar." During the next few years he wrote piles of songs, most of them useless, moved to Los Angeles, and flipped his guitar upright in shame. Somewhere along the way he reluctantly learned to sing along with his guitar.
The Ex X Roommates
Matt lived with Jeff and Mike. Jeff was Matt's friend from high school, a bass player, a compulsive farter, and a better drummer than any real drummer Matt had auditioned. Mike was a keyboard player, a compulsive liar, and a decent bass player. Naturally the three formed a band, then moved into separate domiciles. Friends that couldn't remember the real name of the band, nicknamed them the Ex Roommates. Eventually it stuck. A few months later Jeff found true love and disappeared from the face of the earth. Mike developed back pains from the weight of the bass and was encouraged to go back to playing keyboards.
Dan
Dan went to Harvard. What else do you need to know? Also being from Winters, Dan felt the urge to move to LA and join the X Roommates. He is tall and looks funny when he dives into a swimming pool.
Aaron
When Aaron stopped shrieking and rapping for the hardcore band he was in, he remembered he had a beautiful voice. He thought "I can sing backups for Matt, and play bass too. And I can be a counselor in a troubled teen facility and be totally exhausted and stressed all the time." Matt welcomed Aaron into the band, partly because he liked the idea of having good harmonies and partly because he wanted someone who didn't lean against the wall during concerts.
Travis, recently ex x roommate ..3
"How many pull ups can you do?" Matt asked pointing a pull up bar installed in the doorway. "About thirty," replied Travis. "Whoah, I can only do about nineteen on a good day. Do you play drums?" And then he joined the band, then quit, then joined again, then again quit.

If you go to an X Roommates concert you may find yourself confused by someone saying put on your Doomskin you dang Jugulord or Aaron ate a dead possum today. You may find yourself dancing or bouncing or maybe just sitting there dumbfounded.
