I've given up not watching TV. I'm just not that poor/progressive/intellectual/pretentious anymore. I built a DVR out of an old computer so that I can at least skip commercials. I hatehatehate commercials. It's not out of character for me to yell at them. ALL OF THEM. Anyway, now I regularly watch Arrested Development, Family Guy, Futurama, Scrubs, and Battlestar Galactica.
Fight Club, Foucault's Pendulum, and On the Road are my top 3 faves, but I've recently been reading the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin, along with an assortment of other works, including the Tales of the Otori trilogy+1, Cloud of Sparrows, Man's Search for Meaning, Tao Te Ching, The Tao of Jeet Kun Do, and others not necessarily worth mention. I guess I tend towards philosophical works or fantasy. My first novel is going to be fantastic philosophy, I'm sure. (Good thing...philosophical horror wasn't panning out for me.)
