Chillosophy Music had been in our mind for a long time, but it wasn’t until 2005 that we finally decided to get it going. One may wonder why we started Chillosophy Music. Everybody knows that record sales have taken a nosedive the last few years, and continue to drop. This has been a serious blow to underground labels - many of them are out of business and the rest are fighting hard for their existence. Obviously, our primary reason for starting Chillosophy Music is not money. We do it out of passion for the music.
Chillosophy Music is a downbeat record label, but we believe it to be more than just another label. Our mission is to explore all possible forms and styles of Downbeat music, while maintaining an underlying nerve; a common "Chillosophy". We mean this in a very wide sense, from abstract ambient to lounge to anything that is chill friendly.
Our Chillosophy is built on the concept of Defining Moments. To us the concept of Defining Moments is moments when everything stops for a second or two, an extraordinary sensation of some kind; of beauty, of thrill, of relaxation, of any strong emotion really. Something you know may change you, may take you in a new direction. Defining Moments is the core of Chillosophy - the key to our graphical profile and the base for our musical selection.
The core of Chillosophy Music is 12:es Vinyl and CD Compilations. Each vinyl release will contain an original track with typically 3 remixes of various genres one of these always being a dance remix. This concept has proved very successful on our first two 12& releases - Omnimotion Japan EP got a fantastic response and Fingertwister - I remember Jah EP directly grabbed spot 5 on the Deutche Chillout Chart and was the record of the month in German magazine Raveline.
The heart of the compilations is the Defining Moments series - compilations that are meant to capture the essence of Chillosophy both music-wise and design wise.
