Y TUESDAY POETRY CLUB

I am here for Serious Relationships and Friends

About Me

I am a poetry club that takes place on the first and third Tuesday of each month at 8pm. I takes place in a room above the THREE KINGS publick house, in Clerkenwell Close, Clerkenwell, LONDON EC1. Farringdon is the nearest underground station to me.I was born in February 2006, of a conversation between two poets after they had too much to drink on a cold winter night in January. . . typical eh ? Oh, by the way, they were identified as BURGESS THE RHYMER, once a native of Clerkenwell and LINE THOMSEN, once a native of Aarhus and they now co-host a poetry club free of failed comedians and free to get in. They both wanted to create a cosy, candlelit space where writers of reflective, thoughtful poetry didn't have to compete against comedians, rockers and rappers who have many existing clubs to go to in London. At the same time, they were music lovers and thought one or two acoustic acts that would send us all home with music in our soul after the poetry would be a good way to round off the night; and so it is. My name has something to do with the hosts both liking the song Ruby Tuesday and this website is operated by both of them and sometimes, as you will see, a talking cat. (oh come on, is the religion you were born to any less bizarre?). Recently, a favourite of the club CERI MAY has taken on some of the MCing duties at Y Tuesday.

Music:

of an acoustic kind has been known to grace my pale green ears or resound around my red room, usually at the end of a poetry performance. This has included many a lovely set of acoustic songs by John Hassall of the band Yeti, Line Thomsen being backed by Alfia Nakipbekova, Jazzman John Clarke's quartet, various Filthy Orphan line-ups, Gabi Garbutt,Carl Barat and half the libertines, Kieron of the View,Matt Arthur, Jude Cowan and on one occasion by Burgess the Rhymer.

Movies:

Not really possible here, but before the poetry, there is an excellent jukebox that includes Mink Deville's Spanish stroll and Donovan's trip, Patti Smith and even Mingus !

Television:

Flirted with it but TV proved to be a fickle mistress indeed.Meetings, meetings, meetings . . .

Books:

My first anthology "Echoes from the Green Room" is now available at all good poetry clubs taking place in the Clerkenwell area on the first Tuesday of each month in 2007. Courier penguins will be sent with any e-mail requests, straight to your letterbox.

Heroes:

All the poets that have performed at my fireplace or moved the very fine jukebox to silent admiration are heroes ! They include, Line Thomsen, Burgess the Rhymer,Ceri May, JC, Feathers Chapman, John Hassall,Jazzman John Clarke,Alfia Nakipbekova, Bernadette Cremin,Sam Bloom, Neville Coleman, Haris,The Filthy Orphans,Johnny Truant, Lucy Leagrave, Donall Dempsey, uberRachel Hoffard, Yututso Sharma, Pascal Smart, Rufu, Paolo, Leon the poet, Duke Hancock, Glenda May, Dave Bryant,Jessica Grace,Rhuar, Maiden Speech,Alec Bell, Tim Lambon,Georgina Banfield, Andrew Deian,Dorna Aslanzadeh, Dunstan Drummer,Jude Cowan,Gabi Garbutt, Carl Barat, and many, many, more . We also like to break bread with the dead by remembering quotations of our Ghosts of honour.......................
Angels are this colour when viewed through the Absinthe glass. They are of course, those who buy drinks for impoverished poets who on their verbal streak,do tend to get thirsty. Wings are optional. Angels should not be confused with Cherubs, who are nasty little creatures who keep humans out of the Eden project (or is it the garden of Eden?).
Drinks A new shrine to Stella Artoise has been added to the side of the bar! 1920's in style and offering the the new Stella Peetermans amongst other amber nectars or you could
Train & Bus Farringdon is the closest station, on the Circle and Hammersmith & city underground lines. There are also mainline links to such places as Brighton and St Albans.Bus numbers 55,243,63 & 153 go nearby.
Publications ECHOES FROM THE GREEN ROOM: the first anthology of a selection of Y Tuesday's favourite poets. AS GHOSTS ARE SAID TO DO by Burgess the Rhymer: The first in a series of Yellow books. PS A purr of pussycats linger behind the Y below, tickle it with a quill and they will awaken . . .
