Movies:
"Brazil," "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen," "Twelve Monkeys," "The Fisher King'" --ok--anything by Terry Gilliam. "City of Lost Children," by Caro and Jeunet [sic]. "Immaculata," which is John Tuturro's directing debut. "The Cradle Will Rock," directed by Tim Robbins about the federal theatre program in the thirties. Really good and perhaps one of Bill Murray's best performances. "Miller's Crossing," - the Cohen Brothers. "The Mission," - to my mind DeNiro's best performance. So many, so many. The Star Wars Trilogy - grew up on them and I refuse to accept the latest three pieces of garbage (George, if you happen to read this, forgive me, but I feel betrayed.) The Lord of the Rings trilogy, perhaps one of the best movie adaptations of a seriese of books and in quality and tone, everything the last three Star Wars movies should have been. I love "Casablanca." A perfect film. Please Hollywood, don't remake it!
Television:
I don't watch television so much right now. Can't afford cable. I did watch all of "Twin Peaks" on a 24-7, two week alcohol bender while I was killing time waiting for a Summer Stock gig to begin. That much Lynch in one concentrated hit can make your summer whack. Trust me.Incidentally, can we all band together and boycott television news until they start actually reporting the news! I wish to start a letter writing campaign. Television news needs to be throttled and replaced...Are you with me?!
Books:
OK. I read a lot. Just read "House of Leaves" by Mark Danielewki. Really an amazing exploration of the boundaries of our perceptions of literature. You don't so much read it as travel through it, get lost in it, and experience it. Really cool.I love anything by Tom Robbins. "Skinny Legs and All" persists as my favorite. My tastes are ecclectic. I love Hermann Hesse, Doestevsky. I include Graphic Novels as literature, so "The Watchmen" by Alan Moore, "Ronin," by Frank Miller, "The Sandman," by Neil Gaiman...the list goes on. I love Fantasy and sci-fi as well, "Dune" by Frank Herbert being one of the best sci-books ever written.
Heroes:
Anyone who speaks the Truth in adversity.
