I am here for Friends

About Me

Crafty vixen who can't stop dancing. Prone to reclusiveness and complete sillyness. I love vintage fashion and decor. I knit a lot - and crochet and sew. I occasionally get around to refininshing furniture that I bought a year ago at the flea market. I wish I could dance like Cyd Charisse, but I often feel more like Luclie Ball. I dance 4-5 times a week - tap, ballet, swing, or just boppin' around the house to anything from early jazz to The Sonics. Even though I got a VERY late start (or re-start) at it, I'm thrilled to finally be able to take a spin around the dance floor when a good band is playing. I also spend a ridiculous amount of time and money on a very cute, but socially awkward and somewhat elderly and completely silly beagle named Susie Q.

I got my background from Backgrounds Archive!

My Interests

Dancin'. What else. . . knitting and sewing, especially from vintage patterns, flea markets and thrift stores, hiking, cooking, books, books, books, old movies, old musicals, and my old dog. Dreaming of ripping apart my garden someday and makin it purdy. Also traveling, although I haven't had much of a chance lately.

I'd like to meet:

Other folks who are into vintage dances, fashion, and decor. Or people that I went to school with (cough) years ago and have really ridiculous stories to share. People who make me laugh. People wih opinions. People who know that the adventure of life doesn't even start to get interesting unless you take yourself outside of your comfort zone. Ex Theatre nerds who broke free and got a life. Someone who can reupholster my boomerang sofa for not a lot of money (a girl can dream).

Music:

Early jazz and Dixieland/ Jump Blues / Rockabilly, the earlier the better / 60's girl groups / Hawaiian / Exotica / Lounge / Garage / Surf / mambo and bossa nova / soul and RnB / Eric Satie on rainy days / if it makes me want to dance, then let's go!

Movies:

The older, the better. old Musicals, The Thin Man movies, Auntie Mame (I just want her apartment), Hitchcock, Noir, any film where the bedrooms are all draped in quilted satin.

Television:

If I owned one, I'd watch it all day. So I don't. But I do miss Alton Brown.

Books:

WWII women's memoirs, Willa Cather, Roal Dahl, E.M. Forster, Charles Dickens, Salman Rushdie, Isabel Alende, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Steinbeck, Hammett, Fitzgerald, Zora Neal Hurston, Ayn Rand, biographies of old-timey movie stars, Mrs. Pollifax, books on San Francisco History, cheesy murder mysteries, vintage interior design books and vintage fashion magazines. Yes, I am sad the there's only one more Harry Potter book. And since I'm trying to retain what little German I know, a lot of German Fairy Tales

Heroes:

Cyd Charrise - the Slinky Red Dress was invented for her:Also, Eleanor Powell, and here's why:
And, as I said earlier, even though I try my darndest to emulate the grace and skill of the two dancers above, I generally feel a bit more like Lucy (she starts stealing my moves at about 2:30): She makes me laugh so hard I snort.
