Andreas Kern hails from Johannesburg, South Africa. He moved to Germany as a child, and began his training in piano at the age of six. His education progressed under the tutelage of Ratko Delorko when he was 13 at the „Privatinstitut für pianistische Studien“ in Dusseldorf and later on at the renowned Hochschule der Künste Berlin under E. Lapitzkaja and P. Devoyon. He supplemented his formal education with private lessons under G. Ludwig in Cologne and master classes with eminent pianists, B. Bloch, G. Mounier, C.L. Minzi and the composer A. Reimann amongst others.In competitions, Andreas excelled from a young age. In the youth competition, „Jugend musiziert,“ he won first prize in several categories, and was a finalist in the Italian competition „Concorso Musicale Internazionale Riviera del Conero.“As a soloist, Andreas has performed in concerts around the world, including in Germany, Italy, India and Japan. He has performed with several orchestras, including the Hannover Philharmonie, Kottmann Stringorchestra and the Aachen Youth Orchestra. He has also performed contemporary music for a radio concert series for the German radio station, WDR. On the CD „Youth artists“ he recorded Gershwin and on the CD of the project „Europiano“ he interpreted Schumann. Since 1999 he has been the artistic director of the arts festival „Sommernachtstraum“ in Berlin, sponsored by Volkswagen.A versatile performer, Andreas recorded the film score for Regoch, composed by Christian Biegai for the upcoming DVD release Croatian Fairytales from Long Ago, directed by Helena Bulaja. In 2004, he was accompanist for the acclaimed Sasha Waltz Dance Company, performing music by Schubert at the „Festival Avignon“ in the South of France. In the same year he performed Mozart at the „Wiener Festwochen“. Most recently, Andreas played a recital for the „Konrad Adenauer Stiftung.“ He was also been invited to serve on the Jury of the prestigious „Steinway Competition“ for 2006 in Berlin. In the same year he produced his own classic show for Arte TV which was aired in May 2007. He also performed twice his new show of "Dolce&Ciabatta" for the German EU-Presidency.
