Well, off the top of my head... People! Greyhound welfare. Searching for the perfect pair of shoooes (and matching bag). The Brontes and Elizabeth Gaskell. I love listening to music, and wish I hadn't given up piano lessons years ago. Playing The Sims 2. Drawing portraits to relax. Going to the theatre (it's not just for posh people) and wishing I wasn't too shy to get involved. Eating Jelly Babies. The Internet and website design. Trying - and failing - to cultivate an air of mystery... Writing (anything and everything). The Muppets. I spend too much time on eBay. Dusty old books, all tatty around the edges. Wallace and Gromit. I find myself strangely drawn to watch shopping channels and Quizmania.
Recently joined MySpace, and particularly hope to meet people who used to know me at school . It seems like such a long time ago now... Would also like to hear from anyone endearing/funny/kind (bonus points for being all three!). I like being intrigued . Arty types are also very welcome, as I love being taught how to see the world from a fresh perspective and wish I was more creative. I just hope all of you would like to meet me! Oh, and one day I would very much like to meet Kermit the Frog ; he always seems so charming and green. Although he's probably much smaller in real life than he appears on TV.
Top artists I've played this week on Last.FM:
Also: Air; Alisha's Attic ; All Saints (relive your teenage angst); Amy Winehouse; Badly Drawn Boy; Banco de Gaia; Basement Jaxx; The Beta Band; Big Band Jazz; Blondie; Blur ; Brightblack Morning Light; Catatonia; Cathy Davey (simply amazing); Cerys Matthews (unforgettable voice); The Chemical Brothers; CocoRosie (thanks, Helen!); The Divine Comedy (got me through rough times); Eighties Electronica; Elbow; E.L.O; Eurythmics (tricky to spell, but so good to hear); Faithless; Fatboy Slim (especially 'The Journey' and 'Praise You'); Frankie Goes to Hollywood; Gnarls Barkley; Goldfrapp; Gorillaz; Groove Armada; The Holloway Brothers; The Human League; Hybrid ('Finished Symphony'); Jim O'Rourke ; Joanna Newsom (try 'En Gallop' first); The Kaiser Chiefs; Keane; Kylie Minogue; Ladytron ; Lily Allen; Luthea Salom; Martha Wainwright (deep); Massive Attack; Moby; Natalie Imbruglia; Natasha Bedingfield; Nina Simone (unforgettable); Orbital; Os Mutantes; PJ Harvey (genius); Radiohead (when I'm feeling down); Regina Spektor; R.E.M; Robert Miles; Roots Manuva (haunting); Royksopp; Satie; Shea Seger (you'll have 'Clutch' in your head for days at a time); The Spice Girls (you're only young once); The Stranglers; Sugababes; TLC; Tom McRae; Travis (for 'Sing'); T-Rex; Turin Brakes; Urbs; The Victorian English Gentlemen's Club; The Whitest Boy Alive; Zero 7 (beautiful sounds).
Take me to the cinema , shove a bucket of popcorn in my hands and I'll watch anything - even the ads before the film starts.
I love really old TV shows, especially dodgy sci-fi and sitcoms ; wobbly sets and wooden acting are timeless! 8 Out of Ten Cats; A Bit of Fry and Laurie ; Blake's 7 (an oldie but a goody); Bleak House; Bodies (though I have to close my eyes); Byker Grove; The Chronicles of Narnia; Chucklevision; Doctor Who; Edge of Darkness; Green Wing ; Have I Got News For You; The League of Gentlemen; Morph ; The Moondial; Most Haunted; The Muppets (are you listening, Kermit?); My Family; Never Mind the Buzzcocks (whatever happened to Mark Lamarr?); The Nightmare Man; Peep Show; Porridge; Pride & Prejudice; QI (Stephen Fry!); Red Dwarf; Sesame Street; The Good Life; The Simpsons; Top Gear (oh, yes); TV Heaven, Telly Hell; University Challenge; Wallace & Gromit; The Worst Week of My Life; The Worst Witch (anyone else remember it?).
Anything Victorian : favourite authors include the Brontes; Dickens (natch); Fanny Trollope (that's one hell of a name); Elizabeth Gaskell; Wilkie Collins. Also, Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own is potentially life-changing. I'm a firm believer in the genius of Donna Tartt (The Secret History, The Little Friend), too. Love to read biographies and books about art history, in a desperate bid to convince myself I'm cultured. Any recommendations gratefully received :-)
Undoubtedly, Emma Peel . An advert for self-defence classes if ever there was one. And where does she buy those catsuits?
