THE CANZ (WELCOME TO THE TROUBLELAND)

About Me

Hip-hop is universal” and THE 'CANZ' epitomize this statement. The two-member group consists of brothers known as PROMINENT and FOSTER of THE CANZ. Both raised in Ghana, West Africa, the duo represents a unique blend of both the African culture and hip-hop they grew up highly influenced on.“Being from Africa doesn’t make us any different from any rapper anywhere, it just makes us unique and gives us a broader perspective of what’s going on in the world, so we have a lot more to talk about than regular rappers” said Prominent. He added on “It’s like a gift and a curse, one day you might gain a fan just 'cus you’re African and another day you can’t even get a crowd to listen 'cus they heard you’re from Africa”.Never giving up on their craft, THE CANZ worked on songs, improved their delivery and constantly stepped up their lyrical content on any and every project they dealt with. ”I think we are the best group coming out this year, put the fact that we are from Ghana aside, our lyrical content is 'sick' and I bet we can go toe to toe with any emcee in the industry” said Foster. The brothers started making music together at a young age back home in Ghana. They were in a group called Haatsville when they first started and Prominent, the older of the two, was then a solo artist. He was known as the rapathologist, and he gained a reputation as one of the best emcees on the Ghanaian hip-hop scene. It wasnt long before the younger of the two, Ayton 'the Foster child', would start making a name for himself as a vicious young rapper at the age of 14. “ Back when I was 14 rapping, I had [guys] twice my age scared to go verse for verse with me 'cus they didn’t want to get embarrassed by a kid” he laughs, “I’m still embarrassing older rappers but I don’t think age has anything to do with it - you either are hot or you not”.The duo left Ghana and moved to Atlanta, GA in search of hip-hop stardom only to meet more obstacles. THE CANZ formally known as THE RAPFRICANZ were constantly ignored because of their nationality. “When we first got here people didn’t even want to hear us out. They thought we were a joke 'cus we were from Ghana, then they heard us rap and they became fans” said Prominent, “We are use to that kind of reaction, its like when most people first hear where we’re from they immediately discredit us, so when they hear the fire we spit they are just overwhelmed by it and then they fall in love with us”.
