Bio
From a school of higher learning to the school of hard knocks, the new era of Hip-Hop has emerged from the Southside of Atlanta, Ga. While most 19-year-olds are enjoying the college life and staying up late at night studying and talking on the phone, you might see the rapper/student Young P (Born Perry Benard) in the studio, at the local open-mic spot, or in a neighborhood near you.Growing up, Young P was a typical child into sports, girls, television, and hanging out with friends. He was influenced by a wide range of cultures and genres, from rock to rap. He and his brother grew up under a hard working single parent household on the Southside of the city. His mother worked two sometimes three jobs, so Young P and his brother were given the freedom to run free and be exposed to street life at an early age.
He always loved music and would make his own mixtapes of songs he loved on the radio. He was mainly into basketball until at age 11, being encouraged by his brother and friends (Greenroom Records) he recorded his first song. The song was aired on the Atlanta radio station Hot 107.9. At 13, after problems at home and conduct at school he was sent to live with his father in Texas. Throughout High School he moved back and forth between Dallas and Atlanta.
His Junior year, he met Super-Producer and friend Cory "Focus" Harris, signed to The Game's brother Bigfas100's Brazil Street Records (The Original Blackwallstreet). He and his friends (Madison, Clinton, and Jason) developed a local group called the “Young Starz†and recorded two underground albums.
After High School, Young P has returned to Atlanta and is currently pushing his mixtape"Elevator Muzik." He juggles his recording career with his school life. He is a Sophomore at Kennesaw State University just outside of Atlanta.
