Luther Perkins, "The tall, skinny guy off to the right of Cash" as my mother described the man when asked about seeing a 1959 Cash Show. This "tall, skinny guy" was essentially the backbone of the original Johnny Cash sound. From the harrowing opening riff of "Folsom Prison Blues", to the clip-clop rhythm of "Blue Train", Luther Perkins was the one behind the sound.
I like to say that the man is proof that you can ellict more drunken hoops and hollers from three strings and four frets than bloodying your fingers on the entire fretboard! Luther has become a cult hero some fourty years since his death. So, feel free to join the "cult" www.lutherperkins.com .
Myspace has decided to yank the original versions of the Johnny Cash songs I uploaded. Why would you want buy a song when you could jerry rig your Blackberry into your car stereo and listen for free (note the heavy tinge of sarcasm). So, I've gotten a few people to help out and give me their takes to uploaded. If I get enough songs, I'll probably start a rotation. Provided you don't sound like William Hung, I can throw in what you've done.
