La Catedral Studios
La Catedral Studios is a space for the arts in a raw Victorian industrial building located at the heart of one of Dublin's oldest quarters known as the Liberties. La Catedral Studios have been named after a Milonga venue in Buenos Aires, that is “La Catedralâ€, an atmospheric tango venue sharing similar features and flare with the derelict lofts encompassed in what once was a busy Dublin clothing factory. Due to its vicinity to so many Churches and Cathedrals, among which Christ Church and Saint Patrick's Cathedral, La Catedral seemed also the most appropriate name for a cathedral looking space. This piece of Dublin's industrial archaeology makes an ideal venue both as a working space for artists and as a multidisciplinary space for artistic and creative projects (The Back Loft). Established in 2005 by Antonella Scanu and Costanzo Idini, la Catedral Studios is a veritable labor of love by its promoters and an army of friends who worked on the painstacking conversion of a derelict space back to its former glory. In relation to the Dublin artistic community La Catedral Studios provide both a meeting forum of synergies, triggered by the process of making art and a space where art making and its creative process is as important as the finished work itself.LA CATEDRAL STUDIOS' DIRECTORS & COLLABORATORS:

THE RESIDENT ARTISTS OF LA CATEDRAL STUDIOS
Formerly based in the Phoenix Art Studios, a soap factory in the Dublin North-side Docklands due to imminent redevelopment, the artists were shifted to a newly refurbished city center location premises in September 2005 otherwise known as La Catedral Studios. The art studios at La Catedral currently encompass twenty-four spaces hosting a great variety of visual artists, among whom painters, sculptors, illustrators, photographers, fashion and jewellery designers, installation and mixed media artists.
The art studios at La Catedral gather a collective of thirty-one artists coming from the most diverse backgrounds, styles and media and feature both emerging and established artists, graduates from the National College of Art and Design, DIT and the Dun Laoghaire College of Art and Design (IADT).
The architectural features of this former clothing factory and the busy inner city life of the Dublin Liberties with the nearby National College of Art and Design, the Digital Hub and a growing number of artistic amenities provide a fertile ground for cross-fertilization and self-motivation to the studios' collective that find the place favorable to meeting and creative expression.
La Catedral Studios throw their doors open once a year on the Open Day. On this special occasion visitors are welcome to meet the artists and view a showcase of their new work and of the work in progress as it unfolds in the artists' working spaces.
