About Me

Bernardo Villela's first film Suffer the Little Children has won four awards and been selected to 13 festivals worldwide (www.sufferproductions.com). Bernardo acquired rights to the Stephen King short story and guided until the final cut in November of 2005. Bernardo has also directed and edited seven short films at Stonestreet Studios, an affiliate studio of New York University. The films can be viewed here or at www.myspace.com/bernardovillela and range from dark and romantic comedy to drama, crime, magical realism and a psychological thriller. He was selected to direct a staged reading of a screenplay entitled "You Make Me Smile" for New York University's HotINK reading series and directed a staged reading of a feature-length screenplay he wrote entitled "The Reveillon." Bernardo has also recently branched out into the world of theatre acting as Associate Producer and Director at the Wilmington Drama League. He has also joined the Chrysalis Board of Directors . Bernardo recently directed a reading of his first play "Light Amidst the Darkness" (www.myspace.com/lightamidstthedarkness), based on a story by Lulu Lear, with the First Draft Writer's Circle. It is currently being considered for publication. Bernardo was hired to direct a television commercial for The Wilmington Drama League which will reach over 165,000 homes. In April a stage adaptation of "Peter and the Wolf" he wrote will premiere. He is currently in pre-production on a feature film.
