Mike Jones

Very few Engineer in Canada have had the wide range of experience and accomplishments of Mike Jones. Starting at the famed Decca Studios in England as a “Tea Boy” Mike was trained by the top “Rock Engineers” of the day Roy Thomas Baker (Queen) and Bill Price (Pretenders). He honed his skills on the top bands of the day. This included working with the likes of Jeff Beck, Jack Bruce, Julio Iglesias, The Moody Blues, Englebert Humperdink and Long John Baldry. Mike was also trained in the art of Orchestral recording by the same people who invented the Decca Tree. Mike developed his skills in both Pop and Classical genres and with large (120-piece) orchestras as well as numerous location recordings. Mike emigrated to Canada to head up a new million dollar facility in Toronto. A few years later Mike started to work all over Canada and the USA as an independent engineer. During the next 5 or 6 years he worked with many different artists including, Bryan Adams/Jim Vallance, Max Webster, Domenic Troiano, Rough Trade, Gladys Night & the Pips, The Cooper Brothers, Neil Diamond and Triumph. During this time Mike also recorded the music for the feature films Meatballs and High Point. Mike’s association with the band Triumph continued and he was instrumental in building the now famed tracking room at MetalWorks Studios and went on to record many artists there including Doug and The Slugs. After a few very successful independent years Mike settled back in Toronto and headed up several Major Studios, helping redesign and upgrade each to a world class level. Over the last few years Mike has worked on many projects including Blue Rodeo, Glass Tiger, The Nylons, New Kids on the Block, Rush, Marc Jordan, Alannah Myles, Parachute Club and Oasis. Mike continues recorded throughout Europe and North America. He is a multi nominated Juno award winner and the recipient of many Gold / Platinum albums for his work with a diverse group of Artists.. Many of the film projects that Mike continues to do are mixed in his favorite 5.1 format. The score in the recent Film Festival entry “Away From Her “ which was composed by Jonathan Goldsmith received high praises. Johnathan and Mike’s last score ended up winning at the recent Gemini awards.
