Uziel Colon was born into a musical family though his curiosity for music did not come about until the age of 13. Although he enjoyed music, it wasn't until the age of 15 when Uziel enrolled himself in music classes at the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico and devoted his free time to practicing and perfecting the skill of performing. His influences at the time included Ludwig van Beethoven and Fr..d..ric Chopin. He quickly became a well-known performer throughout his hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico, and thus began his professional career performing in private and school events. In 1999, Uziel was recruited by the Berklee College Summer Program in Puerto Rico and was offered a scholarship to study at Berklee College of Music, where he went on to earn a Bachelor of Music in Composition in 2003. Whilst developing sharp classical abilities, Uziel became strongly influenced by the prevailing jazz scene. Works by Michele Camilo, Chick Corea, Keith Jarrett and Herbie Hancock impacted his repertoire, and thus unlocked new ideas into his work.In 2003, Uziel began working with Conga Master and Berklee Associate Professor Eguie Castrillo and his Big Band, and has since performed all over New England and Puerto Rico, including the Puerto Rico Heineken JazzFest 2006, the International JazzFest in Carolina, Puerto Rico and the Beantown Jazz Festival in Boston. He is is currently working on his first album.Uziel Colon has performed with the likes of Juan Luis Guerra, Ruben Blades, Victor Mendoza, and has recorded with Marc Quinones, Oscar Cartaya, Greg Hopkins, Bernardo Hernandez and Humberto Ramirez, among others. In addition to being an outstanding performer, Uziel is a brilliant composer and arranger. Uziel has been able to display an amazing charisma and talent in his work. His musical talent ranges from vibrant Salsa sounds to bright improvisations in Latin Jazz; from the soulful sounds of Gospel to the modern sounds of pop. Currently, Uziel works as Accompanist for the Voice Department at Berklee College of Music, as well as Director of Music at LOJ. He also performs at various venues such as Ryles Jazz Club, Scullers Jazz Club, Bob's Bistro and the Regatta Bar.During the summer/Fall of 2007, Uziel performed with various bands in Beijing, China; Mexico City, Mexico; and Madagascar, Africa.
