Born in England, Birmingham. Shirley Kent began her singing career at the tender age of 15. Her career has encompassed the musical spectrum, Folk, Rock and Popular music. But it is her love for Jazz that has seasoned her style. In 1970 she was a member of the UK band THE GHOST. A Progressive Rock Band. With Ghost and as a solo artist, she appeared on the John Peel BBC programme SOUND OF THE SEVENTIES. Information about those sessions can be found in the Ken Garner book IN SESSION TONIGHT. You can also find information about The Ghost and Shirley in the 2008 RECORD COLLECTOR Rare Record Price Guide. Later she would return to the jazz scene in England to play second on the bill to Stephane Grappelli, Oscar Peterson, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Roland Kirk and far too many to list here.
