Tenza, hailing from Kempshot of Montego Bay, Jamaica, has retained a
strong passion for Dancehall and Reggae; Music that was so prominent in her
life, growing up to the empowering and highly uplifting sounds of Bob Marley,
Yellow Man, Beres Homond, Bounty Killer, Denis Brown, Lady Saw, Super Cat and
Beenie Man. Tenza also completed the line-up of electric trio ‘ Fya ’ – the
formerly Def Jam signed female dancehall group. ‘Too Hot’ and ‘Must Be Love’
being a couple of the many hits Gold selling ‘Fya’ released.
Tenza was born and raised in a family of fifteen, which consisted of nine
brothers and 5 sisters. She grew up in a life of struggle and disappointment so
she certainly knows how to appreciate all of her blessings that she has been
given.
Music has always been a part of Tenza’s family. Other members of her family are
also in the music business. Her cousin, Eddie Fixroy, is a famous singer in
Jamaica, he had a hit song with ‘Prison Life’.
Tenza left Jamaica when she was only fourteen to come to live in the UK. She had
to leave all her friends and family, and begin a whole new life in England. At
first, she found it hard, but she soon got back into her music, and took it from
there.
The talented young lady started attending a local youth centre where she met Erol,
Marga and Juda they became her backbone and guidance whilst she set out to
discover her dreams. Later down the line Tenza and Kezia met and combined their
talents to shine in every talent contest they would enter coming in always in
the top three places.
Together, they performed all over the UK, including places like Scotland,
London, Reading and Slough, they were loved everywhere they went and adored
performing. The duo soon after met the third and final member of their group,
Emma. They came together and formed FYA. They went on performing all over the
United Kingdom boosting their popularity, as time went on they were spotted by
publishing company, Jamdown Records, who eventually pushed them into
Def Jam's hands.
