About Me

Nancy Harms’s fresh voice is turning heads. With a unique texture that is at once innocent and sensual, one can hear an array of musical influences: the lullaby soft touch of Norah Jones, the powered control of Lauryn Hill, the playfulness of Louis Armstrong, the quirky funk of Harry Connick, Jr. Local jazz legend Arne Fogel had this to say about Nancy: "...at the root of it all she has a very legitimate, instinctive sense of natural Swing that anchors everything she does and which imparts a special, distinctive, Jazz quality. This "beat" is innate in some folks; you either have it or you don’t. Harms has it."In addition to her remarkable voice, Nancy also possesses a distinctive philosophy about the musical experience. She believes it isn’t about her at all. Rather, she sees music as an invitation – to emotion, to a sort of conversation, to intimacy. With each phrase, the music becomes a moment outside of herself, an opportunity to ask questions and share with people in the room.Ms. Harms received classical voice training when she attended Concordia College in Moorhead and sang with the Concordia Choir, adding to her diverse vocal background. She has recorded, enjoyed radio play, and performed with many jazz and gospel musicians in various cities and venues across Minnesota including the Dakota, the Times, Rossi’s and the Fine Line. Together with these musicians, Ms. Harms is creating a sound that is engaging, surprisingly joyful, and impossible to ignore. To read what Jazz Police had to say about Nancy, click on the link in the "Band Website" section.Myspace Layouts
