THE STORY
In the summer of 2006, Batlow then known as 'Big B' held up a Royal Mail Van on Ilford High Street. Upon finding that the van was empty, he held the driver hostage at pencil point for the next 16 hours, the driver was made to drive around London where Big B procedded to kidnap various customizers whom he had been closely watching on the then-brand new phenomenon known as Myspace, these initial group of kidnappees included Linxman, NInja D, Bomb Foley, Kesh, Uncle Pins and The Wet Paint Crew led by Mr. Cee.
Imprisoning these artists in a make shift detention centre deep in the heart of Dagenham, they were made to sharpen pencils, pluck chickens and put currants in buns for the next four months. In a twist to the story Big B was imprisoned himself, after the dark but colourful puppet master: only known as 'KayBee' was revealed to be pulling Batlows strings.
In their time of imprisonment some of these designers were lost: it was found that Pins was secretly eating all the porridge, tired of his greed and selfishness, one of the wet paint crew confronted Pins, so Pins killed and ate him. Seeing an opportunity to break out from the prison while one of the guards was watching porn, Kesh managed to jump the fence and run, she didnt stop running til she ended up in New York. Upon finding the news of the break out another of the Wet Paint crew was tortured and killed as a lesson to the other inmates.
Using the recipes handed down to him by his african witch doctor grandfather, Ninja D concocted a potion which he used to drug their captor, led by Pins, the prisoners broke free of their Dagenham prison and they ran away and they lived rough on the London streets of Soho and Carnaby Street, finding an empty shop space which used to sell second hand clothes and overly expensive dresses, they inhabited the space naming their new home 'The Workshop'.In the Christmas of 2006, the crew were left homeless and naked when their home and workplace was burnt down to the ground, the cause of the blaze was never determined but the blame is pointed at either Linxmans heat press, Pins' Foreman grill or Batlows cigarettes. Despite the loss of their home and their pet rabbits; 2pac and Big, the Ugly Kids Club managed to win themselves the first ever UK Urban Fashion Award in 2006, which is currently sitting on Nana Batlows mantlepiece in Korea.
Since the beginning of 2007, Bomb Foley and Pins have led the crews successful T Shirt label. As well as consulting, printing and designing with a number of other brands and companies; Skinnymans Smoking Ban tees, Keshwear, Urban Nerd, Octupus Ink, Boy Blue Entertainment, Flawless Entertainment, DubPlate Drama, Blues and Soul magazine etc The Ugly Kids Club Tee shirt label has birthed a number of iconic tee shirt designs which has taken The Club on a small tour of The UK in RairSkills double decker bus in the summer and autumn of 2007. On this tour the crew managed to write off a Nissan Micra, lose a Ford Fiesta and break an arm but they did live it up by sleeping in 'VIP' tents, on the posh part of the beach at Brighton and they drank champagne and ate wotsits.
Unfortunately the T shirt label is currently involved in a legal battle over copyright infringement with 'Krappy Kones' and 'MisterCord', but their team of well known Nigerian lawyers are fighting the case and not taking any shit from these 'big' companies.
In conjunction with the worlds biggest hip hop brand; The Jumpoff. The Ugly Kids Club began 2008 with a big bang bang. Straight showing off everything they can do; fashion show, custom tee shirt battle between Rair and Trims, bodypainting from Zes while the rest of the Ugly Kids Club were shotting everything from cameras, DVDs and Tee shirts. Jumpoff is now be the monthly place where you can catch the Ugly Kids Club and purchase yourself a tee.
