Beth Willson, hailing from Victoria, British Colombia, has always shown a love for music and singing from a very young age, though perhaps the decision to try and do it professionally didn’t occur to her until the age of eight. A few random contests at a karaoke bar in Brantford: Danny’s Ho Ho (which has since changed ownership), where she won her first singing competition, finally showed her that she had a talent that other people saw. So she began practicing more and more, eventually entering the Simcoe Country Open at 13 as the youngest girl in her category. She didn’t win, but ended up placing well above half the other girls there. This encouraged her to continued to pursue her musical interest all the way to high school where she naturally joined her school choir once she reached the 10th grade.
It was around this time that her musical interests started to expand beyond the –at the time –popular radio airfare to include, not only a bit of country and pop music, but also an introduction from certain peers to classic rock, 70s punk, punk rock, show-tunes (think something like ‘Sound of Music’, or ‘Phantom of the Opera’), and general rock.
As her high school tenure progressed, Beth quickly became the featured soloist in her school choir. Recognizing that she had even more talent bottled up inside, Beth began dabbling in song writing, where she drew inspiration from poems she herself had penned.
Still rather shy and after a failed audition for the new show, Canadian Idol, Beth actually stopped pursuing music for a while. After a year or so out of the mix, she returned to the karaoke stage after graduating from high school. This reemergence allowed her the chance to try out new music, while improving her craft in a fun setting. Returning to the karaoke stage also helped Beth feel more comfortable showcasing her talent before crowds of people.
Now 22, Beth currently runs her own karaoke show. In this way the young artist is guaranteed the opportunity to better her natural talent and to improve upon her latent talent—songwriting.
She is currently working on recording her own rock-influenced music.Together with members of 7thsign has formed a band called
4thSyndicate and will be playing live soon.
