Luke Kennedy is a diverse singer/actor based in Brisbane Australia. Originally from Townsville In North Queensland, Luke began his musical theatre career at age 16 with appearances in Townsville Choral Society and NQOMT shows THE SOUND OF MUSIC, THE KING AND I (as Louis), MY FAIR LADY, and VICTOR VICTORIA (as The Jazz Singer). His first major principal role came in 2001 as Jesus in NQOMT’s JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. He then followed up in the same year playing Marius in LES MISERABLES with NQOMT. Luke received the Townville City Council award for ‘Performer of the Year’ in 2001. In 2002 he played Judah The Townville Choral Society’s JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOUR DREAMCOAT and then Mary Sunshine in CHICAGO for NQOMT.
Luke then moved to Brisbane to again play Jesus, this time in Harvest Rain Theatre Company’s JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR. He then traveled back to Townsville for a brief stint where he played Nick Piazza in NQOMT’s FAME before coming back to Brisbane’s Harvest Rain in 2004 to play The Lion in THE WIZ. In 2006, Luke played The Beast in Harvest Rain’s hugely successful 6 week season of Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST. He also appeared in both seasons of Harvest Rain's smash hit BEST OF BROADWAY show.
Luke has been very busy in 2007. He began 2007 with duel roles of Cain and Japheth in Harvest Rain's CHILDREN OF EDEN. "...for me the pick of them all was the spunky Luke Kennedy doubling as heroes Cain and Japheth. He has a voice, a personality and an enormous stage presence, and is perfectly cast as a hero." - Alison Cotes, Stagediary . Luke recently appeared as Jamie in the extremely successful Queensland premiere of Jason Robert Brown's THE LAST FIVE YEARS for Oscar Theatre Company at the Judith Wright Centre, for which he received outstanding reviews: "The casting is exemplary… He’s not quite as spunky as he was when he blew me over in his roles of Cain and Japheth in the recent Harvest Rain production of Children of Eden, but he’s more subtly sexy, and we can see why the tender Cathy goes for him. Although he becomes the famous author who eventually leaves her behind, his character is one that develops selfishness rather than being that way from the beginning, and the wistfulness he half-displays as he decides to leave Cathy behind to pursue his career is very finely understated, and the more credible for that. His voice manages to control the tricky cadences of Jason Robert Brown’s complex tunes as confidently as Naomi Price’s does, and together they are the perfect combination of voices and characters, alike enough in their modernity, but complementing rather than competing with each other." - Alison Cotes, Stagediary; "It doesn't suck...largely due to the talents of the two young performers. Both have authentic Broadway voices - they even do convincing accents. They have power, range energy and confidence..." - James Harper, Courier Mail; "The Last Five Years is the best musical I've seen in Brisbane in three years of theatre reviewing - I think it has 2008 Matildas written all over it" - Toni Barlett, Time Off
Luke will next appear as The Caterpillar, The King of Hearts, The Horse, The Lion and a Storyteller in ALICE at Harvest Rain. Tim O’Connor’s own adaption of Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through The Looking Glass.
Luke also has other interests in the original music scene. He has toured throughout Queensland with his rock band Ravene (now A Fleeting Testimony). Supporting national and international acts such as Jimmy Barnes, The Whitlams, Christine Anu, Diesel and Jebediah.
