The Real Sound of Missing the Target

About Me

I’m Craig. I have a couple of records to my credit including a fully produced album of my originals and another with a band called Ad Infinitum. That last album is all 100% Progressive Rock influenced by 1970s bands like YES, Genesis, and Kansas. My own stuff isn’t that blatantly “proggy”...........I play with a band in Connecticut called City 56. We rock and that's all that counts. We sound like Alice In Chains meets Pink Floyd and I have the most awesome time playing with these guys......I sing, play acoustic and electric guitars, lead and rhythm, piano, and, uh, anyway, I play a lot of stuff required to make rock music. I like the old sound. The only piano I own is a 1971 Wurlitzer 200 Electronic Piano. I run everything through one or some combination of delay, wah, overdrive, volume, phase, or reverb. What do my songs sound like? Well, go ahead and take a listen. After years of trying to tell people what my songs sounds like I realized that in my mind they sound one way; mostly what I was inspired by when I wrote them. However, I’m way off the mark when someone else listens to it. They’ve got they’re own point of reference..................There's nothing fake about my songs. My music is urgent and earnest, but imperfect, flawed. It's the real sound of missing the target, rather than perfect sound of pretending to hit it. My songs are hard-fought..........Influences? John Lennon once said (and I paraphrase) that, of course, he had influences, but the way he wrote was to take their music, change it around, and make it sound so different that you’d never know he was really just ripping them off. I think I do that a lot. I don’t wear my influences on my sleeve. I think I bury them very deeply in the songs.

Cliff Heller: My Cousin, My Best Friend
