What do you say about a real life rock and roll family? Here we have something that tends to defy much of where rock music is heading. Let's roll back the years a bit, and find a new direction to adventure into.
With so much out there going nowhere, slowly, in a time such as this, we have found a true to life rock and roll band. Stories to vividly paint pictures of painful memories of the past, and dreams for the years to come. An open book to discover, a new language to comprehend, your way lost, with both joy and sorrow great enough to break the strongest of will. This is The Wayward League. Daring to tread the paths of their mentors, The League recalls much of the spectacular brilliance and courage as such bands as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Band, Little Feat, The Grateful Dead, The Faces, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Yes, and the Moody Blues. To balance musical adventure and good rock and roll sensablility is a feat rarely challenged in today's market. The tendency to go for a streamlined sound, with twelve takes, on a good idea, seems to be the safe road many groups are forced into to find success, even if its just a little. From over-produced to under-produced, garage to mainstream, so many are forgetting about the songs. What of the ethic of being a band? Living together, working together, travelling together, and sharing it all through song is the approach taken by this band, or league, as they call it.
The Wayward League recently relocated from northwest mecca, Seattle, to the Athens of the west, Nashville. The point? To solidify the lineup with lead guitar extraordinaire, Mark Trexler. At last, the group is complete and preparing for the onslaught. The sound has taken a turn for the more serious and progressive, while maintaining the down home roots of the early material. So expect nothing and everything at once. The Wayward League is just beginning to book performances to share their musical vision with the masses. Keep your eyes open for this group, and catch them when you can.
