Harvard Glee Club
Founded in 1858, the Harvard Glee Club first performed college songs and glees to the accompaniment of banjos and mandolins. In 1912, under its first conductor, Archibald T. Davison, the Glee Club developed a repertoire of distinction and earned a national reputation. Through Davison's musical leadership and that of his successors, G. Wallace Woodworth, Elliot Forbes, F. John Adams, and Jameson Marvin, the Glee Club continued to build upon its remarkable choral tradition. Members of the Harvard Glee Club span the full range of academic concentrations. While almost all are headed for non-musical professions, many are talented and experienced musicians. The Harvard Glee Club will celebrate its 150th anniversary in 2008.
