I am here for Dating, Serious Relationships and Friends

About Me

I'm a 27-year-old recent law school graduate who moved to the city in summer 2006 after 7 years getting edumacated in Boston. Before that, I'm from Ohio, so underneath the worldly and sophisticated East Coast facade, I'm a friendly Midwestern boy who's still super-excited just to be here. For about two years, I've been working as a corporate litigator at a law firm in Midtown. Work takes up a rather large part of my time, as this might suggest, but I'm not a workaholic, and I've managed to keep my work and personal life balanced pretty well so far. Also, I still have my soul, at least for the moment. I'm leaving here in a few months to work for a federal judge for a year. While I am certainly social and love to go out and have a good time, I'm a nerd at heart! Be forewarned. ;-) I am a fan of Latin, etymologies, and language/linguistics in general (my college major); politics, current events, and the like; classical and especially baroque/early music; and other assorted dorky things. Despite all that, I actually do have social skills and do/listen to "normal" things too. :-)In my spare time, I love exploring the city, all kinds of restaurants (as long as they're good), bars and mixology (i am a lawyer, after all), concerts, museums, going to see movies, the Park, long Sunday brunches, certain TV shows, and reading the Times and various blogs on politics, restaurants, and real estate. My sense of humor is very high-and-low: I love witty banter with erudite intellectual references, but I've been known to laugh at the most childish dirty joke. So, shows like The Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. are my favorites. Also a big Daily Show/Colbert fan, of course. As far as religion goes, I was raised Jewish, and went to Hebrew day school and everything, but I don't really practice. I find the whole topic of religion particularly fascinating, though. And because of all the time I spent singing churchy music in college and law school, I've spent a great deal of time in churches and know most if not all of the Latin Mass. ;-)

My Interests

classical & vocal music, choral singing and conducting (but not so much anymore), politics, dining out/restaurants (the more unusual the better), sushi, inventing new drinks and mixing existing ones, bars, Dance Dance Revolution, etymology, Latin/Classics, video games (esp. the old-school ones from the 80's), linguistics/foreign languages latte-sipping, contemporary novels, news, philosophical discussions, cooking shows, dirty vodka martinis, international travel, digital photography, LGBT issues, movies (especially indie/foreign), scotch, blog-reading, religion (discussing and studying, not practicing), CD shopping, gadgets, making farfetched but somehow apt analogies, quoting The Simpsons, self-psychoanalysis

I'd like to meet:

Looking for an educated, intelligent, conversant, urbane, left-of-center guy between 26-36 or so. Cute is preferable but "cuteness" is relative. Goal-oriented, motivated (career-wise and otherwise), and passionate (about hobbies, interests, and relationships) are important. I'm not looking for someone with a ton of money, per se, but rather, someone who's driven. And, of course, who's open to an actual long-term relationship if the right guy comes along.

Music:

most Classical/early music (Bach, Handel, Schuetz, Josquin, Tallis, Byrd, Victoria, etc.), Arvo Paert, U2, James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac, Guster, Bruce Springsteen, Beatles, Paul Simon, The Eagles, Crosby Stills & Nash (& Young), most things '80s, Joni Mitchell, Coldplay, Keane, classic rock, Avenue Q
